DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux Falls Canaries OF Jabari Henry (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending September 4.
This week, Henry hit .467 (14-for-30) with an impressive six home runs and 12 RBI. The highlight of his week came on Sunday, when he was 3-for-5 with three home runs and four RBI against the Sioux City Explorers in a 6-1 road win. He becomes a two-time winner of the award in 2017, having previously taken home the honors for the week ending June 18.
The mammoth game was only the culmination of a powerful week for the Orlando, Fla. resident. He was hitless in a 2-1 loss at home to the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Monday, August 28, but followed that up with his first homer of the week as part of a 2-for-4 game with a run scored and four RBI on Tuesday. Sioux Falls beat the RailCats 8-1. He homered again on Wednesday, driving in two runs as part of a 3-for-5 night in a 5-4 loss. In Thursday’s series finale, Henry put together his second straight three-hit game. He was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a 6-5 loss.
Henry and the Canaries closed their season with a four-game series against the Sioux City Explorers. Henry was 1-for-4 in a Friday loss at home, and in Saturday’s home finale, he homered again and led Sioux Falls to a 6-5 win. After Sunday’s historic performance, Henry was 1-for-3 with a walk in a 4-2 loss to close out the season.
Henry finishes his season batting .302 with 13 doubles, a triple, 29 home runs and 72 RBI. His 29 home runs were tops in the American Association.
Henry finishes his first season in the American Association following a five-year stint in the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners systems. He played as high as Class AA, spending the 2015 season with the Jackson (Tenn.) Generals in the Mariners system and 2016 with the Arkansas Travelers in the Angels system.
