Grand Prairie 9, Gary SouthShore 2 — Box Score
Grand Prairie’s starting pitcher Trevor Harden (pictured) paved the way for the AirHogs to dismiss the Gary SouthShore RailCats 9-2 on Monday night.
Harden went the distance on the bump and allowed just two runs, both earned, on five hits in the game. He racked up seven strikeouts and did not issue any free passes. Going into the ninth innings Harden had only given up three hits and was yet to allow a run. Pinch Hitter Ryan Babineau broke up the shutout with a two-run homerun in the ninth but the damage had already been done. The AirHogs took the lead in the fifth inning and blew the game open with a five-run sixth.
RF Abel Nieves lead the way with four hits and was one of four AirHogs to have two RBI in the game. Both DH Jason Botts and 2B Brandon Pickney blasted homeruns in the game – Pickney in the sixth inning and Botts to lead off the seventh. Pickney finished the night going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Wichita 7, Laredo 4 — Box Score
After a crucial three-run homerun from CF Brent Clevlen in the top of the eighth the Wichita Wingnuts held off a Laredo rally and clinched a 7-4 win on the road.
SS Ryan Khoury, who had his own roundtripper in the first at bat of the game, and 2B Jake Kahaulelio both scored on Clevlen’s blast and put the Wingnuts ahead 7-2. In the bottom of the inning Laredo’s SS Devin Goodwin hit a two-run homerun to cut the deficit to three runs but the score line would get no closer. In the ninth inning reliever Matt Nevarez came in and sat down the Lemurs in order to earn the save.
Starter Anthony Capra picked up the win for his 6.1 innings of work in which he struck out six batters and gave up just two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Lincoln at St. Paul – Postponed
The game between the Lincoln Saltdogs and the St. Paul Saints was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as a part of a doubleheader Tuesday starting at 1:05 p.m. Central Time. The regularly scheduled game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.
