Winnipeg 11, St. Paul 9 (10 Innings – Completion of Suspended Game from July 20) – Box
Winnipeg RF Josh Romanski launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Goldeyes a stunning 11-9 walk-off win over the St. Paul Saints. St. Paul had a 9-1 lead in the sixth only to see Winnipeg score eight runs over their next three frames to tie the contest at 9-9 and send it into extras. The Goldeyes banged out 20 hits in the game with seven batters having multi-hit nights. Romanski went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBI while 3B Wes Darvill and DH Adam Heisler each had three hits and plated a pair of runs. Winnipeg reliever Eric Eadington tossed two scoreless innings of relief in notching his third win. Third baseman Nate Hanson hit two home runs in the loss for the Saints.
Winnipeg 5, St. Paul 3 (Regularly Scheduled Game – 7 Innings) – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead and that proved to the be difference in the game as they take the regularly scheduled contest, 5-3 over the St. Paul Saints. Winnipeg RF Josh Romanski added a double and two RBI while SS Maikol Gonzalez scored a pair of runs and went 1-for-3. Goldeyes starter Duke Von Schamann threw 5 1/3 innings and notched his seventh win. Von Schamann allowed three earned runs on seven hits and struck out a batter. With the victory, Winnipeg has a four game lead over Laredo in the race for the wild card.
Wichita 3, Kansas City 0 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box
Wichita starting pitcher Jesse Pratt and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Wingnuts beat the Kansas City T-Bones, 3-0 in game one of a doubleheader. Pratt went the first five innings giving up the three hits and two walks while striking out five. The righty earned the victory and is now 5-2 on the season. The bullpen duo of Chad Nading and Frankie Reed each pitched an inning of relief with Reed collecting his 17th save of the year. Offensively for Wichita, CF T.J. Mittelstaedt went 2-for-3 with a first inning two-run home run.
Kansas City 6, Wichita 3 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) – Box
Kansas City rolled out to a 6-1 advantage after 2 ½ innings of play and would cruise from there to a 6-3 win over Wichita in game two of a doubleheader. The T-Bones collected 10 hits in the game with three of them being home runs. Kansas City 1B Jake Blackwood had a first inning three-run home run while DH Anthony Gallas and LF Starlin Rodriguez each hit back-to-back shots in the third. T-Bones starting pitcher Josh Hodges nabbed the victory and is now 2-2 with the team. Hodges gave up three earned runs on eight hits in six innings pitched.
Sioux Falls 6, Gary SouthShore 0 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box
Sioux Falls starting pitcher Joe Bircher tossed a complete game shutout as the Canaries defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 6-0 in game one of a doubleheader. Bircher notched his fourth win of the season as he scattered six hits, walked a pair and struck out five. The contest was tight until the fourth inning when Sioux Falls scored five times, highlighted by the home runs from leadoff hitter Ethan Chapman and 1B David Bergin. Bergin led off the inning with a solo shot while a few batters later Chapman hit a three-run blast. For Gary SouthShore in the losing effort, LF Reggie Wilson went 2-for-3.
Gary SouthShore 5, Sioux Falls 1 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) – Box
Gary SouthShore jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning of play and they would never look back as the RailCats beat Sioux Falls, 5-1 in game two of the doubleheader. Gary SouthShore had 12 hits in the contest with four batters having multi-hit games. RailCats DH Frank Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI while CF Chase Harris plated two runs in a 2-for-3 night. Gary SouthShore starting pitcher Charle Rosario threw six strong innings in picking up the victory. Rosario gave up an earned run on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Rosario is now 8-3 on the year.
Lincoln 8, Joplin 5 – Box
Lincoln LF Brandon Jacobs belted a three-run home in the seventh inning to give the Saltdogs an 8-4 lead and that would be the difference in the game as they defeated Joplin by the score of 8-5. Jacobs had two hits in the game along with three runs scored while DH Curt Smith launched a pair of home runs and collected five RBI. Lincoln pitcher J.R. Bunda tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his second victory. Bunda gave up two hits and struck out three batters. For Joplin, 3B Brandon Tierney went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.
Laredo 4, Texas 3 – Box
Laredo RF Denis Phipps launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Lemurs a 4-3 walk-off win over the Texas AirHogs. Texas had a 3-0 lead after 7 ½ innings only to see Laredo score two runs in the eighth and then the two from the Phipps blast in the ninth to rally the Lemurs to a dramatic victory. Phipps and C Zane Chavez each had three hits on the night with 1B/3B Abel Nieves going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Laredo pitcher Luis De La Cruz notched his second win as he tossed a scoreless ninth inning and struck out a batter. Del La Cruz is 2-1 on the year.
Sioux City 1, Fargo-Moorhead 0 (10 Innings) – Box
Sioux City PH Brendan Slattery singled home SS Nate Samson with the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Explorers beat Fargo-Moorhead, 1-0. Sioux City starter Hobbs Johnson and the bullpen trio of James Walsh, Rob Wort and PJ Francescon were terrific as they combined to give up only three walks and four hits while striking out 15 batters. Francescon went the final two innings and received his second victory of the season. Fargo-Moorhead starter Jose Almarante allowed only two hits over eight innings of work but received a no-decision. RedHawks reliever Will Mathis was saddled with the loss.
