GOLDEYES SWEEP SATURDAY TWINBILL WITH SAINTS

Winnipeg 7, St. Paul 2 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes took the first game of their doubleheader with the St. Paul Saints 7-2 thanks to a five-run fifth.

The Goldeyes struck first as SS Wes Darville tripled to score DH Roy Morales and then he scored when 2B Kevin Lachance singled in the next at-bat. The Saints scored in the third as DH Justin Byrd doubled but Winnipeg put the game out of reach in the fifth. There, 1B Kyle Martin doubled home Lachance and C John Nester hit a sac fly to score CF Darnell Sweeney (2-for-4); LF Jordan George capped the rally with a three-run home run.

Starting Kevin McGovern went the full seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits while recording five strikeouts.

 

Winnipeg 5, St. Paul 2 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes swept the St. Paul Saints in their Saturday doubleheader by taking game two 5-2.

The Goldeyes got things started right away as 1B Kyle Martin (3-for-3) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. In the third, 2B Kevin Lachance scored an unearned run after Martin doubled and, two batters later, Martin scored alongside 3B Darnell Sweeney when C John Nester singled.

The Saints’ only runs in the game came in the top of the sixth when RF Max Murphy (2-for-3) hit a two-run homer. Starter Frank Duncan went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts to earn the win.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Milwaukee 0 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks shut out the Milwaukee Milkmen 7-0 on Saturday evening at Franklin Field.

Starting pitcher Matt Tomshaw picked up the win as he went seven innings and gave up just four hits, four walks and struck out five batters. The Milkmen recorded just five hits in the game, two from RF Zach Nehrir.

Offensively, all nine RedHawks had at least one hit as they racked up 15 for the game. RF Correlle Prime went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and CF Brennan Metzger, 1B Drew Ward, 3B Leobaldo Pina and C Dylan Kelly each added a pair of hits. Pina also had a pair of RBIs.

 

Chicago 13, Sioux Falls 2 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs outpaced the Sioux Falls Canaries 13-2 on Saturday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

Though the Canaries struck first with an RBI single from DH Mike Hart (2-for-3) in the bottom of the first, the Dogs came back with authority. CF Michael Crouse hit a three-run home run in the third and, two batters later, 1B Joey Terdoslavich hit a solo shot. SS Tyler Ladendorf added a solo shot of his own in the next frame.

In the sixth, 2B Edwin Arroyo drew a bases-loaded walk and then Terdoslavich hit a grand slam in the next at-bat. Ladendorf added his second home run of the game two batters later.
