GOLDEYES SHUTOUT WINGNUTS TO TAKE 1-0 LEAD

Winnipeg 5, Wichita 0 – Game 1 (Winnipeg leads series, 1-0) – Box

Winnipeg starting pitcher Edwin Carl and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Goldeyes defeated Wichita, 5-0 to take a 1-0 series lead in the American Association Championship Series. Carl was solid on the mound tonight as he went 6 2/3 innings allowing only a walk and four hits while striking out five batters. The righty earned the victory and is now 2-0 in the postseason. The bullpen duo of Victor Capellan and Eric Eadington shutdown the Wingnuts the rest of the way as they tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out three batters. Offensively for Winnipeg, RF Josh Romanski went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI while 2B Casio Grider added a pair of hits and scored two runs. Game two of the best-of-five championship series is tomorrow night at Shaw Park beginning at 7:00 PM.
