GOLDEYES’ HEARTHER HEADED TO BALTIMORE

Haerther

Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced on Thursday that the contract of infielder Casey Haerther has been purchased by the Baltimore Orioles.

Haerther, 27, hit .360 last season, which tied him with teammate Tyler Kuhn for second in the American Association. He also hit a career-high 13 home runs and added 72 RBI in 98 games during his second season with the Goldeyes. He played 93 of those games at first base and represented the Goldeyes at the 2014 American Association All-Star Game.

“We are thrilled for Casey and the opportunity afforded to him by the Orioles organization,” Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said. “He’s worked extremely hard for his opportunity when he came to us two years ago and wish him the best with the Orioles.”

In 2013, Haerther batted .307 with 10 home runs and 66 RBI in 97 games for the Goldeyes.

Prior to coming to Winnipeg, Haerther played four seasons in the Los Angeles Angels system, reaching Class AA Arkansas of the Texas League in 2012. He was drafted by the Angels in the fifth round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft out of UCLA.

Haerther becomes the 64th member of the Goldeyes to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization.
