GILLIES IMPRESSES ENOUGH IN FIRST TWO STARTS TO EARN PITCHER OF THE WEEK

MOORHEAD, MN– The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Wichita Wingnuts’ P Charlie Gillies (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 17.

Gillies (2-0) had two commanding starts for the Wingnuts this past week. During the Righty’s first start of 2018 on Monday, Gillies tossed six shutout innings in a 6-1 win over Cleburne Railroaders. The Valencia, California native followed his debut performance by allowing just one run while striking out seven over seven innings of work in  a 7-2 win over the Texas AirHogs. Through Gillies’ first two starts, he has a 0.69 ERA.

Gillies began his career in 2012 after being drafted in the 10th round of the MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. He pitched in the Tigers’ system for his first three years before moving on to the Trois-Rivieres Aigles in 2015, Gillies also pitched in three games for the American Association’s now defunct Amarillo Thunderheads in 2015. Since then, the Master’s College alum has bounced back and forth between the Frontier and Can-Am leagues, spending all of 2017 with the Normal CornBelters of the Frontier League.
