Gary, Ind. –The Gary South Shore RailCats and the American Association jointly announced today that the San Francisco Giants have purchased the contract of RHP Matt Solter. Solter becomes the 24th RailCat to have his contract picked up by an affiliated organization since 2002.

Solter had two stays with the RailCats in 2015. He originally signed with the club on July 8th, 2015 out of Furman University in South Carolina and appeared in two games with a 3.60 ERA in five innings. He made his return to Gary for the second time on July 25th and finished the season strong allowing only one earned run his last 10 innings out of the bullpen.

Solter was part of the big 9-7 comeback win over Kansas City on September 7th, holding the T- Bones scoreless while the RailCats fought their way back on the season’s final day. For the season Solter went 2-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 25.2 innings for the RailCats with 14 strike outs and eight walks during his first pro season. Solter joins Anthony Cheky, who signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Spencer Mahoney, who was signed by the New York Yankees as the third RailCat to have his contract purchased in less than a year.
