KC SCORES LATE TO TOP RAILCATS

Kansas City 5, Gary Southshore 3- Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones edged the Gary Southshore Railcats by a score of 5-3, breaking a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh.

Zach Walters drove in the game’s first run for the T-Bones in the bottom of the first with a double. Three batters later, Dexter Kjerstad drove in Walters with a ground rule double. The Railcats scored one in the second to cut the deficit in half, but the T-Bone made it a two run game again in the following frame with an RBI single by Dylan Tice. Gary scored one in the fifth before tying the game in the seventh.

However, Nick Torres drove in Keith Curcio for the go-ahead run in the following frame and later scored on Dexter Kjerstad single to bring the game to its final tally.

Reliever Barrett Astin was awarded the win in his first appearance for Kansas City.

 

Winnipeg Goldeyes 10, Texas Airhogs 2- Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Texas Airhogs on Wednesday.

Winnipeg loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with a Victor Cruzado single, David Bergin walk, and Kevin Garcia single. Josh Mazzola cleared the bases with a three RBI triple to give the Goldeyes a 3-0 lead. Just two batters later, Mazzola scored on a two-RBI double by Grant Heyman.

Winnipeg never looked back tacking on one in the sixth, three in the eighth, and one in the ninth.

Charle Rosario was solid on the mound for Winnipeg, picking up the win and allowing just two earned on six hits while striking out four and walking two in seven innings of work.

Ryan Wagner went 2-4 at the dish with one RBI for the Airhogs.

 

Cleburne 10, Fargo-Moorhead 8- Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders outscored the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in a shootout on Wednesday, winning 10-8.

The two teams combined for 26 hits on the evening, 13 a piece. The RedHawks set the game’s tone right away in the top of the first with a three-run home run by Tommy Mendonca, who went 4-5 on the day.

RedHawks’ starter Jose Almarante retired the first two batter in order in the next frame, but the Railroaders singled, walked, singled, walked, singled two score two runs and load the bases for Michael Pair, who doubled to clear the bases and give Cleburne a 5-3 lead.

The Railroaders added two in the bottom of the third to expand the lead to 7-3, scoring Jordan Dean, who led off the inning with a triple, on an RBI single by Cameron Monger, who later scored when KC Huth was hit by a bases loaded pitch.

The RedHawks took the lead, scoring four in the fourth with two coming on a Charlie Valerio home run and one in the fifth. The Railroaders swiped the lead in the following inning when Levi Scott stole home to tie the game. Then, the Railroaders brought the game to its final tally in the seventh with an RBI single by Alex Polston and a sacrafice fly by Angelo Gumbs.

Tyler Wilson was awarded the win for pitching a scoreless final three innings.

 

Lincoln 6, Wichita 4- Box Score

Brandon Jacobs led the Lincoln Saltdogs to a 6-4 victory, going 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Tyler Herron picked up the win, allowing three earned on six hits while striking out six and walking one over six innings of work.

Tony Thomas scored two runs while going 2-3 at the dish with a solo home run.

In Lincoln’s first at bat of the game, Christian Ibarra went deep. Wichita tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by John Nester, who had three RBIs on the night. The Saltdogs reclaimed the lead in the next frame with Jacobs’ three-run home run. Wichita cut the lead to one, scoring two in the the top of the sixth, but Lincoln answered back with two of their own in the bottom of the seventh.

 

St. Paul 5, Chicago 3- Box Score

Justin Oconner had a night to remember on Wednesday, leading the St. Paul Saints to a 5-3 victory of the Chicago Dogs.

Oconner served as a catalyst for the Saints offense all game long, scoring the game’s first run in the bottom of the third on a double by Kes Carter, and hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead after Chicago had tied the game in the top of the frame.

Chicago pushed late, scoring two on a home run by Joe Benson in the top of seventh, but the Saints’ pen successful took over for Jake Esch (W), recording the final out of the seventh before pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Mike Devine was awarded the save.

Sioux City 7, Sioux Falls 3- Box Score

Last week’s player of the week, Daniel Jackson, continued his early season success on Wednesday, helping the Sioux City Explorers to a 7-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries.

Jackson is now hitting .526 on the season after going 2-3 with two RBIs, a run scored and a walk.

Jackson wasn’t the only Explorers’ player who had a day at the plate. Both Michael Lang and Jay Austin went 3-5 at the dish with an RBI

James Dykstra was awarded the win, giving up three (two earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out two in five innings of work.

Chris Grayson and Jabari Henry both hit solo-home runs for the Canaries
