DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Lincoln Saltdogs INF Ian Gac (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 24.

With his team in the thick of the playoff race in the Central division, Gac won the award for the second time this season, having previously won for the week ending June 1.

The second-year Saltdog had four multi-hit games this week and hit four home runs. On Wednesday, he was 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI in a 20-12 slugfest loss to the Wichita Wingnuts. A day later, his only hit in game one of a doubleheader against the St. Paul Saints was a home run. On Friday, Gac was 3-for-5 with a double against the Saints, which propelled him into a two-homer weekend. Saturday he was 2-for-3 with a home run as the Saltdogs won 9-7, and he closed his week Sunday with a 2-for-4 game that included a homer in a narrow 1-0 win.

Gac, an American Association All-Star in July, is now hitting .348 with 24 doubles, 23 homers and 65 RBI for Lincoln. The Saltdogs are one game behind the Gary SouthShore RailCats at the top of the Central division. Lincoln begins a critical series with the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Central time at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. That game, like all American Association and Can-Am League games, will be available to watch live and for free at www.independentprofessionalbaseball.com from InnovaTV.
