MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers’ RHP Pete Tago has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 4, 2019.
Tago earned the award after giving up just one earned run in 18 innings of work over the past week. In his first start of the week on July 29, the 27-year-old tossed a three-hit complete game shutout in a 5-0 win over the Texas AirHogs, striking out 12 batters along the way. In his second start on August 3, Tago allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work while receiving a no-decision in a 2-1 loss to the AirHogs.
The righty began his professional career in 2011 after being drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies in 2010. Tago spent four seasons in the Rockies’ organization before moving on to the Chicago White Sox organization in 2015. Tago spent two seasons in the Chicago’s organization before making a pit stop with the Seattle Mariners Double-A affiliate in 2017, Tago began 2019 with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League before being acquired in a trade by Sioux City on July 10.
