DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Lincoln SaltdogsRHP Marquis Fleming (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 1.
Fleming made a pair of starts this week and earned two victories. On Tuesday, May 27, he got the ball for the Saltdogs in the first game of a doubleheader against the Grand Prairie AirHogs. In that abbreviated game, Fleming went the full seven innings, allowing no runs on only two hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. The Saltdogs won the game 8-0.
The Oakland, California resident returned to the hill on Sunday, June 1 at the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Once again, Fleming logged seven innings of work, surrendering one run on five hits with seven strikeouts, helping the Saltdogs topple the Goldeyes 4-1.
Overall, the 6’ 1”, 205-pound Fleming is 2-2 with a 1.36 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Opponents are only hitting .174 off of the former Tampa Bay Rays farmhand, who is in his first season of Independent baseball. Fleming reached the AAA level with the Durham Bulls in both 2011 and 2012, mixed in with an extended stint with the AA Montgomery Biscuits.
Fleming and his Saltdogs (8-9) open a four-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with a doubleheader at Lincoln’s Haymarket Park on Tuesday evening at 5:05 p.m. Central time.
