FIVE-RUN NINTH INNING RALLY LIFTS EXPLORERS TO VICTORY

Sioux City 11, Gary SouthShore 10 – Box

Sioux City 1B John Nogowski launched a three-run home run to cap off a five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning and give the Explorers a dramatic 11-10 walk-off victory over Gary SouthShore. The RailCats had a 10-6 lead in the ninth with two outs before two errors led to five runs including Nogowski’s blast to give the Sioux City the win. John finished 3-for-5 on the night with a pair of home runs and five RBI. Explorers SS Nate Samson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI while leadoff hitter Tony Campana collected two hits and plated a pair of runs. Sioux City reliever PJ Francescon threw a scoreless ninth and struck out two to notch the victory.

Wichita 15, Fargo-Moorhead 2 – Box

It was all Wichita in this one as the Wingnuts rolled out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 15-2 win over Fargo-Moorhead. Wichita hammered out 18 hits in the contest with seven batters having multi-hit games. Wingnuts leadoff hitter Harrison Kain went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI while C Zac Fisher added three hits in four at-bats to along with scoring two runs and driving in two. Wichita RF Richard Prigatano also chipped in a home run, going 2-for-5. Wingnuts starter Tyler Kane received more than enough run support to notch his second win of the year. Kane threw seven innings giving up two earned runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Kansas City 2, Sioux Falls 0 – Box

Kansas City starter Jeff Walters and three relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as the T-Bones defeated Sioux Falls, 2-0. Walters went the first 5 2/3 innings allowing three hits and five walks to go along with six strikeouts in a 103-pitch performance. The bullpen trio of Cody Winiarski, Rich Mascheri and Grant Sides tossed the final 3 1/3 innings giving up only two hits and striking out six batters. Walters earned his first victory while Sides collected his second save. Offensively for Kansas City, 1B Chase McDonald and SS Eddie Newton each had 2-for-4 nights and drove in a run. The T-Bones tallied single runs in the second and third innings.

St. Paul 10, Salina 6 (7 Innings/Rain) – Box

The St. Paul Saints plated four runs in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and defeat the Salina Stockade by a score of 10-6. The contest was halted after the seventh due to rain. St. Paul DH Brady Shoemaker led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Saints 1B Tony Thomas collected three hits and scored a run while 2B Tanner Vavra had a 2-for-3 game with a run scored and a RBI. St. Paul reliever Caleb Thielbar recorded the final out in the top of the seventh and notched the victory, his first of the season. For Salina in the losing effort, RF Daniel Aldrich went 2-for-4 and launched a third inning grand slam.

Lincoln 11, Winnipeg 1 – Box

The Lincoln Saltdogs scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead and would go on from there to an 11-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Lincoln collected 11 hits in the game and was led by 1B Tommy Mendonca who went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Saltdogs 2B Cesar Valera had two hits in four at-bats and plated two runs while 3B Christian Ibarra scored three runs in a 1-for-3 game. Lincoln RF Trever Adams and LF Brandon Jacobs also chipped in a home run. Saltdogs pitcher Matt Portland threw four shutout innings to earn the victory. Portland allowed only three hits and fanned six batters in the 65 pitches thrown. For Winnipeg in the losing effort, SS Andrew Sohn went 2-for-4 and scored the team’s only run of the contest.

Cleburne 6, Texas 0 – Box

Cleburne starting pitcher Jorge Martinez and two relievers combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Railroaders downed the Texas AirHogs, 6-0. Martinez threw six solid innings allowing only a pair of walks and three hits to go along with seven strikeouts in a 92-pitch outing. The bullpen duo of Alberto Rodriguez and Cortland Cox finished off the shutout by issuing only one walk and giving up four hits in the final three innings. Martinez notched the win and is now 1-1 on the season. Cleburne CF Devan Ahart had a 3-for-4 night with a run scored and a RBI with 3B Brandon Tierney adding a pair of hits and two runs scored. The Railroaders tallied an early run in the second inning, two more in the fourth and single runs in the fifth through seventh innings.
