EXPLORERS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT, DEFEAT RAILCATS 10-7

Sioux City 10, Gary SouthShore 7Box

Trailing 2-0 after just an inning, the Sioux City Explorers scored six runs in the third and three more in the fifth to take a 9-2 lead and would cruise from there to a 10-7 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. The victory by Sioux City was their sixth in a row. Third baseman Amos Ramon led the way offensively for the Explorers as he went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Sioux City LF Oscar Mesa and CF Tim Colwell combined for four hits and three runs scored in the contest. Explorers hurler Kenny Long was sensational out of the bullpen as he threw four scoreless innings allowing only two hits. With the win, Long is now 1-0 on the season.

Winnipeg 4, St. Paul 2Box

The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored single runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead and would go on from there to defeat the St. Paul Saints, 4-2. With the win, Winnipeg’s lead in the North Division grows to five games over St. Paul. Goldeyes CF Reggie Abercrombie went 2-for-4 with a home run while 2B Brock Bond had two hits in three at-bats and scored two runs. Winnipeg 3B Jake Blackwood chipped in with two RBI in the contest. Goldeyes starting pitcher Matthew Jackson notched the win and improved his mark to 9-6 on the season. Jackson went 6 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs on five hits.

Kansas City 4, Amarillo 1Box

A terrific pitching performance by Kansas City starting pitcher Jared Messer leads the T-Bones to a 4-1 win over the Amarillo Sox. Messer went strong seven innings giving up only one earned run on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. With the victory, Messer improved his record to 3-2 on the season. Kansas City DH TJ Mittelstaedt and RF Ray Sadler each had two hits in the game with both driving in a run and scoring one. T-Bones LF Bryan Sabatella stole two more bases and now has a league leading 32 on the season. For Amarillo in defeat, RF Joe Weik had two hits.

Lincoln 6, Wichita 5Box

After trailing 4-2 through two innings, the Lincoln Saltdogs plated three runs in the third to take a 5-4 lead and would go on to beat the Wichita Wingnuts by a 6-5 final. The 2-3-4 batters of 2B Luis Nunez, CF Jon Gaston and 1B Ian Gac led the charge offensively for Lincoln as they went a combined 6-for-13 at the plate with five runs scored and two RBI. Gac also added his 19th home run of the season. Saltdogs hurler Jhonny Montoya notched his third win in relief as he tossed two innings giving up a hit and a walk while fanning two batters. Lincoln closer Marshall Schuler struck out two hitters in the ninth and earned his 30th save of the season. With that save, Schuler has now tied the league record for most saves in a season.

Laredo 6, Grand Prairie 3Box

The Laredo Lemurs rallied from a 3-1 deficit, scoring five runs over the last three innings and defeating the Grand Prairie AirHogs by the score of 6-3. The win by the Laredo is their sixth straight and stretches their lead in the wild card to 3 ½ games over the St. Paul Saints. Laredo 2B Travis Denker continues his terrific 2014 campaign as he went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Denker now has 23 home runs and 78 RBI both of which are tops in the American Association. Lemurs C Carlos Ramirez also had two hits and drove in two runs. Laredo reliever Michael Suk pitched three shutout innings to pickup the victory.

Fargo-Moorhead at Quebec (Postponed – Rain)

The game between Fargo-Moorhead and Quebec was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, August 14 beginning at 4:30 PM CT.
