CANARIES FALL IN AFTERNOON GAME

Sf Duffy

New Jersey 8, Sioux Falls 5- Box

The Jackals overcame an early deficit to win manager Joe Calfapietra’s 600th game as a professional. Sioux Falls took a 4-0 lead after an inning thanks in part to a three-run home run by DH Chris Duffy (pictured).

The lead for the Canaries held until the seventh inning when 1B Jon Talley hit a two-run home run to give the lead to the Jackals. Sioux Falls promptly tied the game in the bottom of the frame, but DH Jorge Cortes hit his first home run of the season in the eighth to put the Jackals ahead for good. LF Joe Dunigan scored on a fielder’s choice in the ninth inning to give New Jersey an extra insurance run.

Dunigan’s 3-for-5 game paced the Jackals, while five different Canaries had two hits each. LHP Anthony Ferrara struck out five in seven innings to earn the win for the Jackals, and RHP Shaun Ellis saved the game.
