September 1 Evening Recap

Sioux City 7, Lincoln 5 (10 Innings) – Box

Sioux City 2B/PR Bryan Johns belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Explorers a dramatic 7-5 walk-off victory over Lincoln. The Saltdogs had a 5-3 lead through 6 ½ innings only to see Sioux City score a run in the seventh and another one in the ninth to tie the game at 5-5 and sent it to extras. Explorers 1B Ino Patron went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI while CF Tim Colwell added two hits, scored a run and drove in one. Sioux City reliever Rob Wort tossed an 1/3 of an inning to pick up his sixth win of the year. With the victory, the Explorers move into first place in the Central Division with Lincoln a game back.

Wichita 3, Joplin 1 – Box

The Wichita Wingnuts finished off the four-game sweep of Joplin as they defeated the Blasters by the score of 3-1. Wichita RF Brennen Salgado went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI while DH Martin Medina added a double and scored a run. Wingnuts starting pitcher Tim Brown tossed seven solid innings in earning his ninth win of the season. Brown gave up an earned run on five hits and struck out two batters. For Joplin in defeat, leadoff hitter Mitch Glasser had a 1-for-4 night and scored the team’s lone run.

St. Paul 1, Winnipeg 0 – Box

St. Paul SS Tony Thomas scoring the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Saints defeat Winnipeg in a walk-off, 1-0. Thomas, CF Alonzo Harris and RF Breland Almadova each had two hits on the night to lead the offense for St. Paul. Saints starting pitcher Robert Coe and reliever Caleb Thielbar combined on a five-hit shutout of the Goldeyes. Coe went the first seven innings allowing three hits and three walks to go along with a strikeout. Thielbar finished off the final two innings of the contest giving up two hits and striking out three in notching his fifth victory. Winnipeg holds a ½ game lead over Laredo in the race for the Wild Card.

Sioux Falls 9, Gary SouthShore 7 – Box

Sioux Falls tallied six runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and cruise to a 9-7 win over Gary SouthShore. The Canaries had 12 hits in the contest with five players having multi-hit games. Sioux Falls DH J.C. Linares went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI while 1B Jake Taylor drew two walks and plated two runs in a 1-for-2 night. Canaries starter Stephen Bougher picked up his second win as he allowed three earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. With the loss, the RailCats are now two games behind Sioux City with four left to play.

Texas at Laredo (Cancelled – Rain)

The game between Texas and Laredo has been cancelled due to rain. Since the two teams do not meet again this season, the game will not be made up.
