EXPLORERS SWEEP CANARIES; WIN 6-4

Sioux City 6, Sioux Falls 4 – Box

Sioux City finishes off the three game sweep of Sioux Falls and they downed the Canaries by a 6-4 final. The Explorers continue their solid season as they are now 31-12 on the season and lead the Central Division by seven games over Kansas City. Sioux City RF Michael Lang was the star offensively as he went 4-for-5 at the plate with two triples, two runs scored and a RBI. Explorers 3B Tommy Mendonca drove in a pair of runs in a 2-for-3 night while LF Tim Colwell had two hits and a run scored. Sioux City starter Eric Wordekemper tallied his third win of the season as he gave up four earned runs on nine hits in six innings of work.

St. Paul 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2 – Box

St. Paul continues to roll along as they improved their record to 33-9 on the season with a 3-2 win over Fargo-Moorhead. The Saints received a terrific pitching performance by starter Pedro Hernandez. Hernandez went eight innings giving up two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. With the win, the southpaw improved to 5-2 on the season. Offensively, Saints CF Alonzo Harris went 2-for-4 with a RBI while 2B Dan Kaczrowski scored two runs in a 1-for-3 night. For Fargo-Moorhead, C Joe Staley went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Kansas City 5, Gary SouthShore 4 – Box

Kansas City won their sixth straight as they edged past Gary SouthShore by the score of 5-4. The bottom of the order for the T-Bones led the way offensively as the 8-9 hitters of LF Jacob Hayes and RF Christian Torres combined to go 4-for-6 at the plate with four runs scored and four RBI. Hayes and Torres also chipped in with home runs as well. Kansas City starting pitcher Bobby Doran tossed six solid innings en route to the victory. He gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Doran is now 6-1 on the year.

Lincoln 5, Joplin 3 – Box

The Lincoln Saltdogs scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead for good and defeat the Joplin Blasters, 5-3. Four Lincoln batters had multi-hit games, including LF Matt Forgatch who went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and a RBI. Saltdogs DH Curt Smith and 1B Jeremy Hamilton each collected two hits on the night with Smith plating two runs and Hamilton driving in one. Lincoln reliever Zach Westcott tossed three shutout innings en route to earning his first win of the year. Westcott gave up two walks and struck out two batters.
