EXPLORERS RALLY FOR 5 RUNS IN NINTH INNING

Sioux City 8, Milwaukee 3 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers (8-4) rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth inning to top the Milwaukee Milkmen 8-3 on Monday afternoon at Franklin Field.

The Explorers built an early lead as 1B Jared Walker (3-for-5) hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning and LF Joseph Monge (3-for-3) added a solo shot in the second. But the Milkmen battled back to tie the game at 3-3 thanks to solo homers from 1B David Washington and C Christian Correa (2-for-3) in the fourth and fifth, and an RBI double from Washington in the sixth.

In the top of the ninth, the Explorers loaded up the bases and 2B L.T. Tolbert singled home the first run of the rally. C Lane Milligan added an RBI single, Walker pushed two more runs across with a single to right and 3B Jose Sermo singled to center to allow Milligan to score.

Closer Matt Pobereyko came on to pitch the ninth and shut the Milkmen down in order to close out the win.

 

Chicago 12, Winnipeg 9 – Box Score

After falling behind early, the Chicago Dogs (8-5) dug themselves out of a 7-0 hole to claim a 12-9 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Goldeyes took that 7-0 lead with three runs in the second, three more in the third and an RBI double from 1B Kyle Martin (2-for-5) in the fourth. In the bottom of the fourth, SS Johnny Adams hit his league leading sixth home run – a three run shot – and 3B Cosimo Cannella added a two-run homer. 2B Grant Kay (2-for-5) added an RBI single to pull the Dogs within one run.

Kay added a three-run home run of his own in the sixth and DH Harrison Smith joined the club with a three-run shot in the seventh.

Reliever Tyler Ferguson earned the win for working three hitless innings.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Gary SouthShore 2 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks held the Gary SouthShore RailCats to just two runs on three hits as they took game one of their doubleheader 7-2.

The RedHawks took control in the top of the first as RF John Silviano (2-for-4) hit a two-run home run. DH Ed Reichenbach added an RBI single in the second to push the lead to 3-0. SS Sam Dexter (2-for-3) singled home C Dylan Kelly (2-for-3) in the fourth, and in the sixth, Kelly singled home Silviano and scored alongside Dexter on a single from 2B Nick Shumpert.

For the RailCats, LF Raymond Jones (2-for-2) scored when 3B Daniel Lingua bounced out in the bottom of the second and 1B Ben Andrews scored when RF Hayden Schilling grounded out in the sixth.

Fargo-Moorhead starter Gage Hinsz earned the win for tossing five innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out four batters.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 3, Gary SouthShore 0 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks completed the sweep of their Memorial Day twin bill with the Gary SouthShore RailCats with a 3-1 win in the night cap.

The RedHawks (10-4) moved in front in the top of the third inning after SS Sam Dexter doubled and then scored when DH Ed Reichenbach singled in the next at bat. In the fifth, CF Will Zimmerman (2-for-3) hit a lead-off home run and RF John Silviano added another solo shot in the sixth.

The RailCats (6-8) threatened in the fourth as they loaded up the bases but reliever Ryan Flores came on and struck out SS Tyler Van Marter to retire the side and strand all three runners. Flores worked 2.1 innings and earned the win on the night as he struck out five of the 10 batters he faced.

The RailCats rallied again in the bottom of the seventh as LF Raymond Jones (2-for-4) hit a two-out double that plated DH Nikola Vasic but a fly out to left in the next at-bat ended the game.

 

Sioux Falls at Kansas City – Postponed (Rain)

The game between the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Kansas City Monarchs was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up tomorrow, June 1, as a part of a doubleheader scheduled to begin 5 p.m. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
