EXPLORERS EDGE WINGNUTS IN EXTRA INNINGS

Sioux City

Sioux City 7, Wichita 6 (10 Innings) – Box

Sioux City RF Michael Lang scored the game winning run on an error by Wichita C Martin Medina in the 10th inning as the Explorers edged the Wingnuts, 7-6. Lang did it all offensively for Sioux City tonight as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI. Explorers CF Matty Johnson collected two hits and scored two runs while 3B Tommy Mendonca had a 2-for-5 night with a run scored and a RBI. Explorers pitcher Connor Overton threw two innings of relief and picked up his third win of the year. Overton gave up an earned run on two hits and struck out three batters.

St. Paul 3, Winnipeg 2 – Box

In front of a crowd of 9,736, St. Paul starting pitcher Mark Hamburger tossed 8 2/3 innings of solid baseball in leading the Saints to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Hamburger gave up two earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in a 123-pitch performance. The righty is now a perfect 6-0 on the season, which is the best in the American Association. Saints reliever Caleb Thielbar picked up the last out for the save and left the tying run stranded at second base. The Saints scored all three of their runs in the first inning.

Laredo 4, Sioux Falls 1 – Box

The Laredo Lemurs scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and beat the Sioux Falls Canaries by a 4-1 final. Laredo 2B J.D. Pulfer led way the offensively going 2-for-4 including a big two-run home run in the eighth to put the Lemurs up for good. Right fielder Denis Phipps plated a pair of runs in 2-for-4 night and SS Alvaro Rondon went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Lemurs starting pitcher Matt Sergey tossed seven solid innings to improve his record to a perfect 4-0 on the season. Sergey allowed an earned run on six hits and fanned eight hitters.

Fargo-Moorhead 13, Kansas City 4 – Box

Fargo-Moorhead jumped out to a 4-0 lead after just an inning and would roll from there to a 13-4 win over the Kansas City T-Bones. The RedHawks banged out 14 hits in the contest with five players having multi-hit games. Fargo-Moorhead RF Keury De La Cruz had a 3-for-5 night with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI. The RedHawks’ 4-5 hitters of SS Josh Mazzola and DH K.D. Kang went a combined 5-for-7 at the plate with two home runs, six runs scored and five RBI. Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Will Solomon had more than enough run support to get the victory. Solomon tossed six innings giving up three unearned runs on five hits.

Joplin 6, Texas 5 – Box

Joplin 3B Cory Morales doubled home C Charlie Valerio with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Blasters went on to a 6-5 win over the Texas AirHogs. Valerio went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and a RBI while leadoff hitter Mitch Glasser had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Joplin pitcher Jose Ortega evened his record at 2-2 on the year with the victory. Ortega went 1 2/3 innings and struck out a batter. For Texas in the loss, SS Juan Sanchez launched a home run in a 1-for-2 night.

Gary SouthShore 10, Lincoln 2 – Box

Gary SouthShore rolled out to a 4-1 lead after three innings and would cruise from there to a 10-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. The RailCats had six players with multi-hit games including CF Brennan Metzger who went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a RBI. Gary SouthShore RF Tillman Pugh and C Jose Gonzalez each had three-hit nights and 1B Jeremy Hamilton collected two hits and three RBI. RailCats pitcher Travis McGee won his second game of the season. McGee tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.
