ESPN SET TO AIR E:60 ON CLEBURNE’S PALMEIRO

E60

MOORHEAD, Minnesota — The worldwide leader in sports confirmed on Friday with the American Association that Cleburne Railroaders’ INF Rafael Palmeiro will be the subject of an ESPN E:60 special set to air over the following week.

ESPN.com’s John Barr worked as a correspondent for the special and released a text version of the story earlier today on ESPN.

Barr spent the first two days of June with co-producers William Weinbaum and Toby Hershkowitz interviewing Rafael, his son Patrick who also plays on the team, as well as members of the Cleburne staff and front office.

Weinbaum said that their crew began looking into doing a story on Rafael after he announced that he planned to workout for teams in hope of a comeback despite having played his last full professional season in 2005 with the Baltimore Orioles.

Once Palmeiro signed with the Railroaders on May 10; Barr, Weinbaum and Hershkowitz contacted Cleburne’s play-by-play announcer Michael Dixon to request an interview with the senior Palmeiro. Once cleared the ESPN production crew made the long trek; Barr (Pennsylvania), Weinbaum (New York) and Hershkowitz (Connecticut), down to Cleburne, Texas.

Prior to signing with the Railroaders, Rafael appeared in one game with the Sugar Land Skeeters back in 2015 as part of a publicity stunt, though he went 2-4 in the contest.

The E:60 special is set to debut Sunday June 17 at 8 a.m. CST on ESPN. The program will air multiple times throughout the day and week. Full schedule of air times can be seen below.
