Chicago Dogs first-baseman Jacob Teter and Winnipeg Goldeyes starter Joey Matulovich won the American Association’s Rawlings batter and pitcher of the month for the month of June, the league announced Monday.
Teter led the league in runs batted in for the month of June, driving in 31 while hitting .385 with eight doubles and a league-high 10 home runs. He also drew 19 walks and stole three bases.
The slugger had multiple big time performances in June, including two five-RBI games and two multi-home run games, one of which was on Sunday in Fargo to close out his month.
Also a player of the week this month, Teter’s batting average is up to .352 on the season and he is leading the league with 16 homers while being tied at the top with Brian O’Grady with 49 RBI.
Also a player of the week this season, Joey Matulovich had a really strong month on the mound for the Goldeyes.
The right-hander made five starts in June, going 3-1 and totaling 34 innings pitched. He allowed just six earned runs (1.59 ERA) and struck out a whopping 48 hitters while walking just five.
He went at least six innings in four out of the five starts, and his month was highlighted by a complete game against the Milkmen in Milwaukee in which he struck out 14.
On the season, Matulovich now leads the league in strikeouts by a good margin with 71 and is top five in both wins (5) and ERA (2.14).
