RailCats 17, Saltdogs 12 – Final Score

Despite putting up double-digit runs, the Lincoln Saltdogs (32-38) fall to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (28-42) Monday night at Haymarket Park.

Gary SouthShore scored in the first frame of the contest by a wild pitch that scored Thomas Walraven. Victor Nova hit a single a few at-bats later that plated Jesus Marriaga and gave the RailCats an early lead. But they weren’t done, when Sherman Graves roped a double that brought in Victor Nova to score and put the RailCats up by 3.

The SaltDogs proceeded to put up 8 runs in the next 5 innings behind a Matt Goodheart single in the 2nd that scored Rayder Ascanio. Lincoln turned the bats back on the next inning as Rayder Ascanio hit a single that plated two runs, Skyler Weber and Ryan Long.

Once again, the SaltDogs took control of the next 4 innings, scoring 3 more runs with efforts by Drew Devine, Skyler Weber, and Ryan Long, who all scored.

The Lincoln SaltDogs found themselves down 4 headed into the bottom of the ninth and started off the scoring with a homerun by Hunter Clanin, scoring three runs. Later in the inning Josh Altmann scored Ryan Long with a single.

Due to the SaltDogs 9th inning frenzy, the game was headed into the 10th inning. With bases loaded, Jackson Smith hit a grand slam in the top of the 10th to give the RailCats a 4 run lead, and later added to it in the inning. The SaltDogs were a quick three outs in the bottom of the frame.

Pitcher Yeison Medina picked up a tally in the win column as he came in and pitched 2 innings, striking out 1, letting up 3.
