DAHLBERG’S 2-HITTER LEADS DOGS TO VICTORY

Chicago 5, Milwaukee 0 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (23-17) rode a two-hitter from starting pitcher Jake Dahlberg as they blanked the Milwaukee Milkmen 5-0.

Dahlberg needed just 108 pitches, 77 for strikes, to finish off the Milkmen on Wednesday evening. He allowed just two hits, one each to C Christian Correa and 2B Aaron Hill, and did not issue a walk. No Milkman reached third base on the night and Dahlberg finished the evening with 10 Ks.

For the Dogs offensively, C Ryan Lidge and LF Brennan Metzger both went 2-for-3 with a home run. CF Michael Krouse added two-run shot in the sixth inning.

 

Houston 4, Sioux City 3 – Box Score

The Houston Apollos (7-31) held off the Sioux City Explorers to take 4-3 win on Wednesday evening.

Sioux City drew first blood as SS Nate Samson singled home DH L.T. Tolbert (4-for-5) in the bottom of the first inning. In the third, Houston’s LF Blake Berry pushed 2B Jordan Pontious across the plate with a fielder’s choice and C Hudson Bilodeau did the same in the next at-bat to score SS Yeiler Peguero. The Explorers tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Tolbert scored on a sac fly from Samson.

Berry hit a two-run homer in the fifth that proved to be the difference. In the ninth, Tolbert scored on a balk with two-outs to pull within a run but 1B Jose Sermo struck out in the next at-bat to end the game.

 

Cleburne 4, Lincoln 2 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders (20-18) picked up their fourth win in a row and their ninth in the last 11 games as they topped the Lincoln Saltdogs 4-2.

The Railroaders took control in the bottom of the second as CF Zach Nehrir (3-for-4) hit a lead-off triple and scored on a sac fly from RF Hunter Clanin. Later in the inning, LF Noah Vaughan (3-for-4) hit a two-run home run to give Cleburne the 3-0 lead. In the next frame, Nehrir singled home 2B Alay Lago (2-for-4).

In the fourth, the Saltdogs found the scoreboard as SS Josh Altmann (3-for-5) singled home CF Forrestt Allday and then scored when 2B David Vidal singled two batters later.

 

Gary SouthShore 4, Kane County 1 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats (18-21) dropped the Kane County Cougars 4-1 in game two of their three game set to level the series.

The RailCats struck first in the top of the second inning when SS Tyler Van Marter (2-for-4) singled home 2B Ryan Cash (2-for-4). In the sixth, Cash scored again when C Ciaran Devenney doubled and Devenney scored when RF Alec Olund singled later in the inning. Cash capped the scoring for the RailCats with an RBI single in the seventh that plated LF MJ Rookard. The Cougars’ lone run came in the eighth on a solo home run from 3B Gavin LaValley (2-for-4).

Starting pitcher Josh Vincent earned the win for working nine innings and allowing four hits and four walks. Reliever Nick Garcia grabbed a nine-out save and struck out three batters along the way.

 

Winnipeg 9, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (16-21) pulled away from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to claim a 9-5 win on Wednesday night on the road.

The Goldeyes plated five runs in the third inning as LF Jay Gonzalez (2-for-5) singled home C Austin Rei and scored alongside CF Tyler Hill (2-for-5) and RF Max Murphy (4-for-4) when 1B Kyle Martin (2-for-4) doubled. Martin scored on a double from 3B Raul Navarro (2-for-4). In the next frame, Navarro singled to score both Gonzalez and Murphy to push the lead to 7-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the RedHawks plated five runs with RBIs from C Dylan Kelly (2-for-3), CF Alex Boxwell (2-for-4), 2B Manuel Boscan and DH Kevin Krause (4-for-5).

Murphy added a solo shot in the sixth and an RBI double in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

 

Sioux Falls at Kansas City – Postponed (rain)

The doubleheader between the Sioux Falls Canaries and Kansas City Monarchs was postponed due to rain and field conditions. One of those games will be made up tomorrow, July 1, as a part of a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
