MOORHEAD, MINN. – The Gary SouthShore RailCats have sold the contract of OF Edgar Corcino to the Boston Red Sox organization, the American Association announced Friday, May 24. Corcino is the 19th American Association player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization in 2019, and the 39th since the start of the 2018 season.
Corcino joined the RailCats this offseason after splitting time between the Minnesota Twins’ Double-A and Triple-A teams in 2018 where he batted.264 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs across 85 combined games. The puerto ricans’ time with Gary SouthShore marked his second stop in the American Association. Corcino’s first stop in the association was with the El Paso Diablos in 2013. With the RailCats in 2019, Corcino hit .250 with two RBIs and four runs scored over five games.
Corcino began his professional career after being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 26th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He spent four years in the Tigers’ organization before splitting time between the El Paso Diablos and the Rockford Aviators of the Frontier League in 2013. Corcino also spent 2014 with Rockford before joining the Twins’ organization in 2015.
