CAVAN’S HIT STREAK WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Kansas City T-Bones INF Ryan Cavan (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 26.

Cavan collected a hit in all seven games he played this week, going 17-for-29 with three doubles, a home run and four RBI. He propelled the T-Bones to three victories on the week.

The Belmont, Calif. resident began his week on Monday against the Gary SouthShore RailCats with a 1-for-2 game that included an RBI and two walks in a 10-5 home loss. Cavan helped the T-Bones rebound Tuesday by going 1-for-4 in a narrow 1-0 win over Gary. A day later, Cavan recorded his first of four straight multi-hit games. He was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the T-Bones ended their series with the RailCats by earning a 4-0 shutout win. Cavan’s best game of the week came Thursday. In a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes, he was an impressive 5-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Cavan kept hitting as Kansas City suffered a pair of narrow defeats on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, in a 9-8 loss, he was 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Cavan turned in another three-hit game on Saturday, going 3-for-6 in a 7-6 loss to Winnipeg. He added another double and hit his lone home run of the week in the game, where he scored two runs. Cavan ended his week on Sunday with a 1-for-3 performance in the series finale against Winnipeg.

On the season, Cavan is now batting .351 (78-for-222) with 18 doubles and four home runs with 28 RBI. A 16th round choice of the San Francisco Giants in 2009, Cavan played in their system for five seasons. He reached as high as AA, where he spent the entire 2012 season with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. His best season was 2013, when he hit .311 over  86 games, primarily at Class A Advanced San Jose. Cavan spent 2014 with the Southern Illinois Miners in the Frontier League before joining the American Association in 2015.

The T-Bones are tied for the American Association Wild Card lead and begin a road series with the Sioux Falls Canaries on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Central time at the Birdcage in Sioux City.
