CANARIES’ ELY PURCHASED BY PIRATES’ ORGANIZATION

MOORHEAD, MINN. – The Sioux Falls Canaries have sold the contract of INF Andrew Ely to the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization, the American Association announced Saturday, August 17. Ely is the 38th  American Association player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization in 2019.

Ely caught the Pirates’ attention after hitting .289 with 17 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs and 35 RBIs over 78 games with the Canaries in 2019.

The 26-year-old began his professional career in 2014 after being drafted in the 32nd round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs. Ely played nine games at Triple-A in 2014 after hitting .326 with four home runs and seven RBIs in 25 games at the Rookie-Level. Ely spent four seasons in the Cubs’ organization before spending one season in the New York Mets’ organization in 2018.
