Sioux Falls 7, Sioux City 6 – Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries (20-29) bounced back from a slow start to edge the Sioux City Explorers 7-6 on Monday at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
LF Sebastian Zawada (2-for-3) gave the Explorers the lead in the bottom of the first inning with a grand slam. The Canaries found the scoreboard in the top of the fourth when C Shamoy Christopher hit a solo homer and RF Wyatt Ulrich tripled to score LF Jordan Ebert (2-for-2) and SS Angelo Altavilla (2-for-4). Sioux Falls tied the score in the fifth with a sac fly from 1B Trey Michalczewski but the Explorers took the lead back in the home half as 1B Lane Milligan scored on a wild pitch and RF Joseph Monge (2-for-4) singled home Zawada.
Sioux Falls took the lead in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from CF Cade Gotta (2-for-5), an RBI fielder’s choice from 3B Nick Gotta and sac fly from DH Troy Alexander.
The Canaries bullpen took care of the rest as relievers Grady Wood (W, 2-0), Colby Wyatt and Caleb Frare (SV) held the Explorers scoreless in the final four innings.
Winnipeg 5, Lincoln 2 – Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-25) came back from an early deficit to top the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-2 on Monday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.
The Saltdogs took the lead in the top of the third inning when SS Josh Altmann (3-for-3) hit a two-run home run, his 15th homer of the year. The Goldeyes made their move in the bottom of the fifth as C Austin Rei singled home LF Logan Hill and 3B Dakota Conners (2-for-4) and then scored when 2B Kevin Lachance singled to left two batters later. 1B Kyle Martin added a two-run home of his own in the eighth to add a pair of insurance runs.
Starting pitcher Eduard Reyes earned the win as he went seven innings and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out four batters. Closer Jose Jose picked up his seventh save of the year.
