DURHAM, NC – Omar Luna’s (pictured) stint in independent baseball lasted only 13 games, but his .360 average was enough for the Atlanta Braves to purchase his contract from El Paso. The Braves are expected to send Luna to Double-A.

Before signing with the Diablos, Luna spent six seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. The Rays signed the infielder as a free agent in 2006 and he advanced as high as Triple-A. After the 2012 season, Luna moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, where he played in 29 games with the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts. Luna also was also invited to major league spring training with the Rays from 2009 to 2012 and with the Dodgers earlier this season.

In 13 games for El Paso, Luna hit .360 with four doubles and six RBI. He will now go to the Southern League with the Mississippi Braves.
