BLASTERS SHUTOUT AIRHOGS, 5-0

Joplin

Joplin 5, Grand Prairie 0 – Box

Four Joplin pitchers combine on a five-hit shutout as the Blasters downed Grand Prairie, 5-0. Joplin starter Nestor Molina threw the first six innings giving up the five hits and a walk and striking out five batters. Molina notched the victory and improved his mark to 6-3 on the season. The bullpen trio of Carlos Fuentes, Victor Capellan and Winston Abreu allowed only a walk over the last three innings of the contest and fanned three hitters. Joplin 1B Yasser Gomez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI and C Carlos Ramirez added a home run and two RBI.

Winnipeg 14, Kansas City 2 – Box

After trailing 2-1 through four innings, the Winnipeg Goldeyes rallied in a big way scoring 13 runs over the last five innings and beating the Kansas City T-Bones by the score of 14-2. Winnipeg hammered out 20 hits in the contest, with five players having multi-hit games. Goldeyes 3B Josh Mazzola led the offensive charge going 5-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Winnipeg LF Adam Heisler chipped in with five hits along with two runs scored and a RBI while SS Casio Grider had three hits in five at-bats and drove in three runs. Goldeyes starting pitcher Kyle Anderson tossed five innings to pick-up his second win of the year. Anderson gave up an earned run on seven hits and fanned four batters.

Amarillo 12, Sioux Falls 7 – Box

Amarillo banged out 18 hits in the contest as they took care of the Sioux Falls Canaries by the score of 12-7. Thunderheads CF Dexter Kjerstad had a tremendous game offensively going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, three runs scored and six RBI. Amarillo’s 1-2 hitters of RF Logan Vick and LF Jordan Guida combined for six hits in nine at-bats and plated six runs. Thunderheads starting pitcher Matt Larkins tossed eight innings and collected his sixth win of the season. Larkins allowed four runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk. For Sioux Falls in defeat, DH Jason Repko went 2-for-4 and launched his sixth home run of the season.

Sioux City 4, Gary SouthShore 1 – Box

Sioux City starting pitcher Patrick Johnson continued his terrific season as he threw seven solid innings in leading the Explorers to a 4-1 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Johnson allowed only an earned run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. The righty is now a perfect 9-0 on the season to go along with an ERA of 1.97. The nine wins are good for a tie for first in the American Association while the ERA is tied for third best. Explorers 2B Ryan Court had three hits in four at-bats with a RBI while LF Brent Keys had two hits and scored a run.
