BLACKSHER NAMED WEEK’S BEST HURLER

Blacksher Pitching

DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Grand Prairie AirHogs RHP Derek Blacksher (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.

Blacksher picked up his eighth and ninth victories of the season by not allowing a single earned run in 17 innings. The right-hander pitched eight innings on Monday at Amarillo and only surrendered one unearned run on five hits. In his next start against El Paso, however, Blacksher was even better. He tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout. Blacksher struck out six and walked two in his best start of the season.

The Texas native’s cumulative stats for those two starts speak further to his dominance. Blacksher owned a 0.53 WHIP  over the week and a blank ERA, while striking out 10 men. He also improved to 9-6 and dropped his ERA 73 points, helping the AirHogs pull into a tie for the South Division lead in the process.
