Lincoln 5, Sioux Falls 0 – Box
Lincoln starter Joe Bisenius struck out a season-high 14 batters and shut out the Canaries for eight innings, allowing just five hits. Bisenius has had 10 strikeouts in each of his last three starts.
Reliever Trey Barnham entered in the ninth and finished off the shutout.
Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a solo homer from DH Chad Mozingo. The Saltdogs scored two more in the fifth and another two in the ninth to win and move into a tie for first place with Gary SouthShore in the Central Division.
Lincoln 3B Brandon Pinckney and C Tyler Smith each had two hits in the game and Pinckney scored twice.
Sioux City 8, Gary SouthShore 6 – Box
Sioux City scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to wrestle the lead from the RailCats, winning 8-6.
In that frame the Explorers turned a 6-5 deficit into a lead, when Explorers 2B Michael Lang doubled home a run, C Dillon Usiak scored on a wild pitch and LF Oscar Mesa hit an RBI double. Mesa led the X’s with three hits in the game.
Sioux City grabbed an early lead with a four-run third inning, including a two-run single from RF Peter Barrows, but Gary SouthShore scored two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a short-lived lead.
Left-hander Kenny Long got the win for Sioux City after allowing two runs — zero earned — in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Right-hander Alex Burnett pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to get the save.
Winnipeg 10, St. Paul 6 (12 innings) – Box
The Goldeyes scored five runs in the top of the 12th to finish off the pesky Saints, who tied the game twice before falling in extra innings.
Winnipeg C Luis Alen hit a go-ahead RBI double in the 12th to give the Goldeyes the lead, and a two-out rally added four more runs. 3B Jake Blackwood hit a two-RBI double, SS Tyler Kuhn singled home a run and CF Reggie Abercrombie sent an RBI double to left field to give the Goldeyes a 10-5 lead. Alen went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a walk against the Saints.
The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by LF Joe Bonfe, and after a sacrifice fly gave the Goldeyes a lead in the 10th, 1B Angelo Songco tied the game again by driving in SS Joey Becker. In the 12th, St. Paul got one across before Winnipeg right-hander Barry Fowler retired the final three batters to cement the win.
Amarillo 4, Laredo 2 (10 innings) – Box
Amarillo scored two runs in the top of the 10th to beat Laredo, 4-2. The Sox got the go-ahead run across on a wild pitch, and 2B Geraldo Valentin tacked on another run with an RBI single. Valentin batted 3-for-5 Tuesday night.
Amarillo relievers Jake Feckley, Kristhiam Linares and Jeremy Gooding combined for 4 1/3 innings without allowing a hit after starter Clayton Tanner allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings. Linares got the win and Gooding picked up a save after shutting out the Lemurs in the ninth and tenth.
For the Lemurs, CF Nick Van Stratten had a solo homer in the fifth.
Wichita 4, Grand Prairie 3 (10 innings) – Box
Wichita C Chris McMurray hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring 1B Victor Diaz to give the Wingnuts the lead in the top of the tenth, and closer Dan Sattler kept the AirHogs scoreless in the bottom of the tenth for a 4-3 win.
RF David Espinosa tied the game in the seventh on an RBI triple. Espinosa batted 2-for-4 with a walk. SS Abel Nieves and DH Carlo Testa led the Wingnuts with three hits. Reliever Michael Zouzalik got the win after pitching a scoreless ninth.
Kansas City 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2 – Box
T-Bones SS Vladamir Frias batted 3-for-4 with a fifth-inning RBI double, and Kansas City beat the RedHawks, 3-2.
Frias’s double scored the first run of the game, and he later scored on an RBI single from 2B Danny Richar. In the sixth, the T-Bones added an insurance run when CF Robby Kuzdale drove in a run with a single to left field, and they needed it after the Fargo-Moorhead bats woke up.
RedHawks 1B Michael Johnson plated the team’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, and C Travis Higgs led off the seventh with a home run to cut Kansas City’s lead to 3-2.
Kansas City closer Kris Regas walked two with one out in the ninth, but retired the final two batters to seal his 20th save. Right-hander Joe VanMeter started for the T-Bones, pitching seven innings of two-run ball. He struck out six in the win.
