BERGIN, GOLDEYES TAKE FINALE AGAINST REDHAWKS

Winnipeg 4, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box

RF K.D. Kang started the game’s scoring for the Redhawks in the fourth inning, singling in two runs to put his team up 2-0. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Goldeyes responded with two home runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run lead. LF Josh Romanski hit the first of the two home runs, connecting on a solo shot to put his team within one. Three batters later, DH David Bergin blasted his 20th long ball of the year with a man on base to give the Goldeyes the lead. The Redhawks tied the game in the seventh inning, but 1B Shawn Pleffner smacked a RBI single in the eighth to give the Goldeyes the eventual winning run. Pleffner and Bergin each contributed multi-hit games in the winning effort. LHP Mitchell Lambson earned the victory, pitching two innings of one-run ball while striking out three batters. RHP Ryan Chaffee closed the door in the ninth to convert his 18th save of the year.

Wichita 9, Texas 5 – Box

After dropping the first game of the series against the Airhogs on Friday night, the Wingnuts stormed back with two straight wins including in Sunday’s finale to take two out of three games. It was a 3-3 game in the sixth inning when the Wingnuts exploded for six runs to take a commanding lead. RF Richard Prigatano collected two of those hits in the inning, scored once and knocked in two runs in the barrage. Prigatano finished the game with three hits and scored twice. DH Martin Medina hit the lone home run of the game for the Wingnuts as he connected on his sixth long ball of the year. RHP Tyler Kane pitched six innings of three-run ball to earn his tenth victory. Kane (10-1) allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out a batter.

Gary Southshore 3, Kansas City 1 – Box

The Railcats scored on three solo home runs to take Sunday’s finale over the T-Bones to earn their 48th win of the year. 3B Kris Goodman led the way, connecting on his fourth home run of the year in the winning effort. SS Ryan Fitzgerald and CF Chase Harris also homered, their seventh and fifth home runs respectively. 3B Jordan Edgerton scored the lone T-Bone run on a home run, his seventh long ball of the year. RHP Daniel Minor put in a strong pitching performance as he allowed just one run over six innings of work. Minor (1-0) allowed three hits, walked a batter and struck out two. RHP Drasen Johnson struck out a batter and pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 11th save.
