Lincoln 8, Grand Prairie 0 (Doubleheader Game 1- 7 innings)– Box
Lincoln Saltdogs RHP Marquis Fleming (pictured) twirled a two-hit shutout in game one of a doubleheader as his team blanked the Grand Prairie AirHogs 8-0. Fleming picked up eight strikeouts while only walking one and threw 82 pitches.
His run support primarily came from a five-run fifth inning for the Saltdogs. CF Jon Gaston hit a two-RBI double in the inning, part of a 2-for-4, three-RBI day. LF Matt Forgatch, DH Chad Mozingo and RF Brian Joynt all recorded single RBIs in the fifth as well. Mozingo and Forgatch notched a pair of hits in the abbreviated game. C Chris Anderson was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the game.
Lincoln 7, Grand Prairie 5 (Doubleheader Game 2- 7 innings)– Box
The Saltdogs overcame a 4-0 first inning deficit to sweep the doubleheader from the AirHogs. Lincoln scored two runs each in the third, fifth and sixth innings after scoring a single run in the bottom of the first. A two-RBI double from 2B Kevin Howard gave Lincoln the lead for good in the fifth, plating DH Jon Gaston and 1B Ian Gac.
Howard was 2-for-3 with three RBI, as he also singled home CF Chad Mozingo in the first. Gac had a perfect 3-for-3 game with two RBIs- an RBI single in the third and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Gaston was 3-for-4 as well.
RHP Michael Click earned a relief win for the Saltdogs, tossing two innings and allowing an unearned run on two hits with a strikeout. RHP Marshall Schuler registered the save with a two-strikeout top of the seventh.
Kansas City 7, Gary SouthShore 4 (Completion of suspended game from May 26)– Box
In a game that was suspended in the eighth inning on Monday night, the Kansas City T-Bones scored three ninth inning runs to take a 7-4 win. C Danny Masiello notched an RBI sacrifice hit to score SS Vladamir Frias, who reached on a leadoff double in the ninth. RF Bryan Sabatella and DH Nick Garraputo followed with RBI singles to pad the lead.
Sabatella was 3-for-5 with two RBIs on the game, having homered during Monday night’s action. Garraputo and Frias were each 2-for-4. Gary SouthShore LF Josh Romanski was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
LHP Kris Regas picked up the win in relief for the T-Bones.
Kansas City at Gary SouthShore– Postponed
The scheduled second game between the T-Bones and Railcats was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a doubleheader Wednesday at 11:10 a.m. consisting of two seven inning games.
Trois-Rivieres 7, Amarillo 5 (Doubleheader Game 1- 7 innings)– Box
In a wild seventh inning, the visiting Aigles held on to take a 7-5 interleague win against the Sox. Trois-Rivieres upped its lead from 4-3 to 7-3 thanks to RBIs from LF Drew Miller, 1B Kyle Nichols and 3B Carlos Guzman in the seventh. In the bottom of the frame, 2B Josh Miller and DH Cory Patton led off with walks. 1B Keith Brachold doubled them both home to trim the lead. Amarillo sent the tying run to the plate three times, but RHP Nick Sarianides held on for Trois-Rivieres.
C Kyle Lafrenz went 2-for-3 for the Aigles. LF Derek Perren, making his Sox debut, was 3-for-4 and Brachold was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
RHP David Leblanc pitched two perfect innings of relief to earn a win for the Aigles.
Amarillo 3, Trois-Rivieres 2 (Doubleheader Game 2- 7 innings) – Box
For the second game in a row, the seventh inning proved to be a thriller in Amarillo. The two teams traded zeros until the seventh, when Trois-Rivieres struck for two runs in the top of the inning. Amarillo did not go quietly, though. Three of the first four Sox hitters drew walks to load the bases with one out. LF Derek Perren hit an RBI single, and DH Cory Patton tied the game with a bases-loaded walk. 1B Keith Brachold hit the walkoff single, and Amarillo went home a 3-2 winner.
Perren was 2-for-4 with the RBI, and Trois-Rivieres 1B Kyle Nichols was 2-for-3. RHP Kellen Moen earned the win in relief for Amarillo. Trois-Rivieres starter RHP Matthew Rusch struck out eight in a no-decision six-inning start.
Rockland 18, St. Paul 1– Box
The host Boulders pounced on the Saints in interleague action, plating 15 runs in the first four innings en route to an 18-1 win. The Boulders pounded out 20 hits in the contest, and four players hit or eclipsed the three-hit mark. DH Will Walsh and 2B Ryan Stovall each blasted a pair of home runs. Walsh hit a two-run shot in the second inning and grand slam in the fourth. Stovall had a solo homer in the first and a three-run long ball in the fourth. Walsh finished the day with six RBIs and Stovall had four. 1B Jerod Edmondson, 3B Stephen Cardullo and LF Joe Maloney all had two-RBI games.
Saints 2B Brandon Wikoff had two of his team’s four hits.
RHP Nate Roe went five innings on the mound in his first start of the year for the Boulders, earning the win. He allowed no runs on two hits and struck out five.
Wichita 6, Laredo 2– Box
The Wichita Wingnuts came back from a 2-1 deficit heading to the bottom of the sixth inning and took a 6-2 win over the visiting Laredo Lemurs. After the first two hitters of the sixth reached for Wichita, 1B J.T. Wise hit a two-RBI double to give the Wingnuts the lead. Later in the inning, Wise would score on a Laredo error. In the seventh, Wichita tacked on two more on a two-RBI single off the bat of Wise which scored 2B Jake Kahaulelio and CF Brent Clevelen.
Wise would finish 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Clevelen was also 2-for-4, and LF Carlo Testa was 3-for-4 for Wichita.
Laredo C Angel Flores hit a two-run home run in the fifth for the Lemurs’ lone runs of the game.
RHP Tim Brown earned the win for Wichita, allowing one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts over seven innings.
Winnipeg 2, Sioux City 1– Box
After the visiting Sioux City Explorers scored in the top of the first inning at Shaw Park, the Winnipeg Goldeyes kept them off the scoreboard for eight frames. That effort was enough to give the Goldeyes a 2-1 win on Tuesday night.
Sioux City 3B Tommy Mendonca had an RBI single in the first inning. Winnipeg 1B Casey Haerther tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, scoring RF Donnie Webb, who stole second earlier in the at bat. The Goldeyes took the lead when 2B Jake Blackwood hit a sacrifice fly to score C Luis Alen in the fifth.
Winnipeg’s seven hits were scattered among seven different players. 1B Luke Murton of the Explorers was 2-for-4.
LHP Kyle Anderson picked up the win for Winnipeg. In his start, he logged six and 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and struck out four. RHP Chris Kissock worked around a walk and a hit to earn the save for the Goldeyes.
