DURHAM, NC- With four home runs and 16 RBIs in the month of June, Laredo Lemurs INF John Alonso (pictured) has been named the Rawlings Player of the Month in the American Association. Alonso was selected by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association. The Orlando, Florida resident is hitting .333 (41-for-123) in 33 games with the Lemurs this season. He turned in eight multi-hit games for the Lemurs this month, with four of those being three-hit games. Alonso had a hit in all but two of the games he played over the course of the month.
Alonso opened the month with a bang, going 3-for-4 on June 1 against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. On June 6 and 7, he homered in back-to-back games against the Kansas City T-Bones, and drove in three runs in the first of the two games. The three RBIs was a high for the month. Alonso’s next home run came on June 14, when he left the ballpark against the T-Bones at home. His last long ball of the month was on June 18 in a home loss to the Wichita Wingnuts.
Alonso, a second-year Lemur, has five home runs and 21RBIs on the season.
Laredo is 22-20 on the season, six games behind first place Wichita in the American Association’s South division.
