Texas 4, Wichita 3 – Box
The Airhogs came from behind to win on Friday night as they scored three runs in the last two innings to overcome a two-run deficit for the victory. Down 3-1 in the eighth SS Beamer Weems blasted a solo home run, his eighth long ball of the season, to narrow the deficit to one. Later in the inning 1B, Levi Scott connected on a single to tie the game. In the ninth C Ryan Wagner scored on a sacrifice fly from DH Jake Taylor to give the Airhogs the go-ahead run. RHP Robert Tasin pitched a scoreless ninth to shut the door and give the Airhogs its 34th win of the season. RHP Jared Mortensen allowed three runs (two earned) in eight innings to earn his seventh victory of the year.
Salina 9, Sioux City 7 (Final – 11 innings) – Box
1B Kewby Meyer was the hero on Friday night as he hit the go-ahead RBI in the 11th on a double. LF Jimmy Heck followed his hit with a RBI single to make it a two-run game en route to the victory. Meyer was 2-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in the victory. RHP Cody Strayer pitched two scoreless innings and struck out a batter to earn the win. DH Jesse Baker was 3-6 with two home runs in the win. The home runs were his seventh and eighth of the season.
Gary Southshore 8, Kansas City 1 – Box
Before the T-Bones knew what hit them on Friday night the Railcats had scored five runs through four innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead en route to its 47th win of the season. Four different players hit home runs in the victory. LF Cameron Newell connected on the first long ball in the first inning, hitting a solo shot to give his team a 1-0 lead. 1B Alex Crosby also homered in the win as he hit his second long ball of the year and drove in two runs in the winning effort. LHP Jeff McKenzie pitched six one-run innings to earn his third win of the season. McKenzie (3-3) allowed eight hits and struck out two batters in the victory.
Cleburne 6, St Paul 3 – Box
The Railroaders utilized a three-RBI day from 1B Geraldo Valentin to carry them to their 39th win of the year on Friday night. Valentin knocked in his first run of the night on a sacrifice fly in the fifth that extended the Railroaders lead to two runs. In the seventh Valentin blasted a two-run double to make it a four-run game in the eventual win. SS Alex Polston also had a big night as he collected two hits and drove in two runs for the Railroaders. RHP Patrick Mincey was the winning pitcher as he contributed seven three-run innings while allowing six hits and striking out six for his eighth victory. RHP Winston Abreu pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out two batters to earn his 21st save.
Lincoln 8, Sioux City 2 – Box
The Saltdogs cruised to their 51st victory of the season on Friday night as they outlasted the Explorers after taking a 5-0 lead through the first four innings. The Explorers fought back as they scored twice in the sixth, but the Saltdogs were not satisfied as they added three more runs en route to the victory. Five different players blasted home runs in the victory including RF Randolph Oduber and 1B Curt Smith. Oduber was 3-5 on the day with a run scored and two RBIs and the home run was his 14th of the season. Smith connected on his ninth long ball of the year and scored twice on the night. RHP Shairon Martis earned his third win of the season by pitching six-plus two-run innings. Martis (3-1) allowed six hits and struck out seven batters for the Saltdogs.
Fargo-Moorhead 1, Winnipeg 0 – Box
The Redhawks blanked the Goldeyes on Friday night thanks to a brilliant performance from LHP Tyler Alexander. Alexander (6-6) lowered his league-best ERA to 2.36 while pitching seven shutout innings to go along with ten strikeouts to earn the win. Alexander was relieved by RHP Trey McNutt, who pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two batters to earn his third save of the season. 2B Brandon Tierney produced the lone RBI in the game as he singled in a run in the fifth inning. 1B Shawn Pleffner and 3B Wes Darvill both produced two-hit games in the loss for the Goldeyes.
