Former American Association pitcher Max Scherzer (Fort Worth, 2007) will represent the National League at the upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Scherzer, now a member of the Washington Nationals, will appear in his third straight Midsummer Classic. He is 9-6 on the season with a 1.82 ERA and threw a no-hitter on June 20 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In that game, Scherzer came within an out of a perfect game before hitting Pirates OF Jose Tabata with a pitch.

Scherzer has worked 118.2 innings thus far in 2015, striking out 139 and only walking 14. He has thrown three complete games this season, all coming in his last four starts. In his start before the no-hitter, Scherzer struck out 16 Milwaukee Brewers in a one-hit complete game. He also took the loss in an 8.1 inning effort on July 2 at the Atlanta Braves.
