ZIEGLER NAMED STAR OF STARS

Ziegler At Home

DURHAM, NC – Wichita Wingnuts 1B C.J. Ziegler (pictured) has been named the Pointstreak American Association “Star of Stars” for the 2013 season. The award is given for the best overall statistical performance by Pointstreak, the official league statistician.

Ziegler’s most outstanding accomplishment was breaking the American Association single season home run record. Wichita’s first baseman hit 30 long balls, beating the previous mark of 27, set by Sioux Falls’ Brandon Sing in 2010. In addition, Ziegler led the league with 99 RBI and was fourth in doubles with 32. He did all of that while hitting .318 on the season.

Those statistics helped the Wingnuts win the Central Division and advance to their second straight American Association Championship Series. In terms of individual accolades, Zielger was well decorated in 2013. Most notably, Ziegler was crowned the American Association Player of the Year and the league’s All-Star first baseman. He also picked up two Pointstreak Player of the Week Awards. During one of those weeks, Ziegler hit for the cycle, drove in 14 runs and broke the league home run record.
