Wichita 7, Laredo 5 – Box

Wichita pounded out 14 hits in the contest and held off a late ninth inning charge from Laredo to win by a 7-5 score. The Wingnuts had five players collect two or more hits including DH Brent Clevlen who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Wichita leadoff hitter Christian Stringer had a three-hit game with a pair of runs scored while 3B Zack Cox hit two doubles and plated two runs.  Wichita starting pitcher Eddie Medina nabbed his third straight victory and improved his record to 4-3 on the season. Medina gave up an earned run on six hits with two walks and three punchouts. With the win, the Wingnuts push their lead to 5 ½ games over the Lemurs in the South Division.

Lincoln 3, St. Paul 2 – Box

Lincoln 3B Luis Alen scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by DH Curt Smith as the Saltdogs edged the St. Paul Saints, 3-2. St. Paul jumped out in front 1-0 in the first inning as leadoff hitter Alonzo Harris scored on a wild pitch. Lincoln would come right back and score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-1 lead. The Saints evened the score at 2-2 in the top of the eighth as Harris tallied his second run of the night on a double play. However, the tie would be short lived as Alen scored the run in the bottom of the frame that put the Saltdogs up for good. Lincoln reliever Stephen Shackleford picked up his fourth victory of the season with Evan Reed notching his 16th save. For St. Paul, starting pitcher Mark Hamburger picked up his first loss of the season as he went eight innings giving up two earned runs on six hits and striking out four. Hamburger is now 11-1 on the year.

Gary SouthShore 7, Texas 5 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box

Gary SouthShore scored five runs in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead and would never look back as they defeated Texas 7-5 in game one of a doubleheader. The RailCats pounded out 15 hits in the contest with seven of them going for extra bases. Gary SouthShore’s 1-2 hitters of DH Cameron Newell and CF Anthony Cheky went a combined 6-for-7 at the plate with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored. RailCats LF Adron Chambers added a pair of doubles in a 3-for-4 day while 1B Frank Martinez launched a solo home run, his seventh of the season. Gary SouthShore starting pitcher Charle Rosario tossed five innings and collected his seventh victory of the year. Rosario gave up four earned runs on nine hits and fanned three batters.

Texas 9, Gary SouthShore 1 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) – Box

After giving up a first inning run to Gary SouthShore, it was all Texas as they rolled to a 9-1 win and gained a split in the twinbill. AirHogs 1B Devon Rodriguez had a tremendous game at the plate as he blasted two three-run home runs, one in the third and the other in the fifth, and drove in seven runs. Texas SS Juan Sanchez collected three hits and scored two runs while CF Michael Hur went 2-for-4 and plated a pair of runs.  AirHogs starter Matt Shepherd tossed a complete game five-hitter in notching his third win of the year. Shepherd gave up an unearned run and a walk and struck out six hitters.

Winnipeg 5, Kansas City 4 – Box

The Winnipeg Goldeyes win in walk-off fashion for the second straight night as they plate three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit and beat the Kansas City T-Bones, 5-4. Winnipeg CF Reggie Abercrombie led the way offensively going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Goldeyes RF Willie Cabrera added three hits and two runs scored while C Carlton Tanabe and 3B Ridge Hoopii-Haslam each drove in a run. Goldeyes reliever Duke Von Schamann tossed 2/3 of an inning and notched the victory. For Kansas City in the losing effort, C Tyler Moore had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs.

Joplin 9, Fargo-Moorhead 6 – Box

Fargo-Moorhead jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings of play but it would not hold up as Joplin tallied four runs in the fourth and five more in the eighth to rally past the RedHawks, 9-6. Blasters 1B Geraldo Valentin and DH Edwin Gomez each had three hits in the game along with scoring a run. Joplin DH/RF Conor Sullivan had a pair of hits, two RBI and a run scored with 3B Brandon Tierney plating two runs. Joplin pitcher Carlos Fuentes threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn his first win of the year. Fuentes gave up a hit and struck out four batters. Right fielder K.D. Kang went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the loss for the Fargo-Moorhead.

Sioux Falls 3, Sioux City 2 (12 Innings) – Box

Sioux Falls SS Blake Schmit singled home CF Ethan Chapman with the go-ahead in the top of the 12th inning as the Canaries beat the Sioux City Explorers, 3-2. Schmit had three hits on the night with a run scored and a RBI while Chapman collected four hits in five at-bats and scored two runs. Sioux Falls tallied single runs in the first and fifth innings to grab a 2-0 lead. Sioux City SS Nate Samson launched a two-run home run in the fifth to tie the contest up at 2-2 and the score would stay that way until Chapman’s run in the 12th. Sioux Falls pitcher Josh Ferrell gave up only a hit in 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn his second win. Ferrell is now 2-1 on the year.
