Wichita 4, Lincoln 3
Wichita scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good as the Wingnuts downed the Lincoln Saltdogs, 4-3 for their 13th straight win. The Wingnuts are now two wins shy of tying the league record for most consecutive wins. This was a see-saw affair for half the game as Lincoln took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Wichita came right back with a run in the second to tie it at 1-1. The Wingnuts added a run in the fourth to take a 2-1 advantage only to see the Saltdogs take the lead right back with two in the top of the fifth. Wichita then scored two in the bottom of the frame to go ahead, 4-3 and would win by that same score. Wingnuts 1B CJ Ziegler had two hits on the night, both doubles, while C Cole Armstrong drove in a pair of runs in a 1-for-3 game. Wichita starting pitcher Justin Klipp won his fourth game of the season as he gave up three earned runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched.
St. Paul 8 Grand Prairie 5
The St. Paul Saints rallied from a 5-4 deficit to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs, 8-5. St. Paul scored two runs in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead and added two more insurance runs in the eighth to win by the 8-5 score. Saints DH Willie Cabrera hit two home runs in a 3-for-5 night with two runs scored and four RBI. St. Paul RF Dan Kaczrowski chipped in with three hits of his own, including a home run, along with two runs driven in. Reliever Mikey Mehlich notched the win for the Saints as he gave up an earned run, a solo home run to Grand Prairie 1B Andres Rodriguez, in two innings of work. St. Paul closer Matt Meyer tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.
Kansas City 11, Amarillo 7
Kansas City won their four straight game tonight as they outlasted Amarillo, 11-7. T-Bones SS Devin Goodwin had a tremendous night at the plate going 2-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI. Kansas City C Petey Paramore and LF Joey Gathright combined to go 4-for-7 at the plate with five runs driven in. T-Bones starter Dustin Loggins evened his record at 3-3 with the victory. Loggins gave up four earned runs on nine hits in five innings of work. For Amarillo, CF Jason Martin went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Sioux Falls 5, Gary SouthShore 2
After trailing 2-0 after two innings, the Sioux Falls Canaries plated a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead and would go on to win by the score of 5-2 over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Sioux Falls starting pitcher Kyle Ruwe tossed a solid game as he went eight innings allowing two earned runs on nine hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The win by Ruwe improves his record to 7-5 on the season. The 8-9 hitters of C Kevin Dultz and 2B Anthony Trajano led the Canaries offense as they went a combined 4-for-7 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Catcher Ryan Babineau hit his second home run of the season for Gary SouthShore in the loss.
Sioux City 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2
The Sioux City Explorers plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win in walkoff fashion as they defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 3-2. Sioux City CF Eliezer Mesa collected two hits in four at-bats on the night while five other players in the Explorers lineup had at least a hit. Sioux City closer Chris Bodishbaugh notched the win despite allowing an unearned run in the top half of the ninth that gave Fargo-Moorhead at the time a 2-1 advantage. For the RedHawks in defeat, LF Mitch Einertson had a three-hit night with a RBI.
Rockland 9, Winnipeg 1
The Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and would blow the game open with four runs in the sixth inning and two more runs in the seventh en route to a 9-1 win over Winnipeg. Rockland RF Jerod Edmondson had a huge night at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Boulders LF Stephen Cardullo also chipped in with a home run, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Rockland starting pitcher Bobby Blevins was terrific in picking up his seventh win of the season. Blevins tossed a complete game allowing an earned run, a solo home run by Goldeyes 1B/3B Casey Hearther, on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
Laredo at El Paso (Postponed – Rain)
The game between Laredo and El Paso was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, July 19 beginning at 5:30 PM in El Paso.
