Wichita 21, Grand Prairie 1 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts clinched the South Division title in emphatic fashion as they dismantled the Grand Prairie AirHogs 21-1.
The 21 runs marks the franchise record for most runs in a game and the 20-run margin of victory is also a franchise best.The win with the Lemurs’ lost, clinched the division for the Wingnuts giving them five straight division titles.
The Wingnuts put up five runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 20-run lead. After the AirHogs scratched out a run in the top of the seventh, Wichita added another in the bottom of the frame to keep the 20-run advantage. CF Nick Van Stratten went 3-for-4 with six RBI in the game and both RF Brent Clevlen and 2B Taylor Smart each added three hits and four RBI.
Kansas City 5, Gary SouthShore 0 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones pitching staff combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as they blanked the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-0.
Starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn earned the win as he went six innings and kept the RailCats off the board while allowing just two hits. Relievers Jared Messer, Aaron Baker and Fernando Hernandez closed out the game by working one inning each. None of them allowed a hit.
Offensively for the T-Bones, seven different batters each picked up one hit. RF Jacob Hayes, C Brian Erie and CF Robby Kuzdale each had one RBI.
Fargo-Moorhead 2, Amarillo 1 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks erased a one-run deficit in the fourth inning and held on to edge the Amarillo Thunderheads 2-1.
Amarillo took the lead in the top of the first inning as 3B Christian Ibarra scored on a sacrifice fly by RF Geraldo Valentine. In the fourth, RF Joe Dunigan belted a double that plated LF Chad Mozingo and C Luke Bailey and gave the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. The RedHawks pitching staff took care of the rest.
Starting pitcher Taylor Stanton picked up the win for working six innings and allowing just one run on two hits. Releiver Mike Nesseth earned the save for closing things out in the ninth.
Sioux Falls 4, Joplin 2 — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries built a four-run lead and held off a late Joplin charge to beat the Blasters 4-2.
The Canaries struck first in the bottom of the first when 2B R.J. Perucki drew a bases-loaded walk. In the third, 1B David Bergin singled home SS Jerome Pena and in the fourth, LF Chris Grayson singled home C Richard Stock. In the seventh, Repko scored on a sac fly from Bergin.
The Blasters started to rally in the top of the ninth as both SS Maikol Gonzalez and CF Oscar Mesa scored when DH Matt Padgett reached on an error. But Reliever Chase Johnson got 1B Jake Taylor to strike out in the next at bat to end the game.
New Jersey 9, St. Paul 5 — Box Score
The New Jersey Jackals scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to come back and beat the St. Paul Saints 9-5.
The Jackals were trailing 5-4 headed into the ninth inning but quickly changed that. 1B Mark Threlkeld tripled to center field and that scored both SS Peter Mooney and DH A.J. Kirby-Jones to give the Jackals the lead. Threlkeld scored on a double by Helms and Helms, in turn, scored on a double by CF D’Vontry Richardson. Richardson scored the fifth run of the rally when 3B Jared Schlehuber singled in the next at bat.
For the game, Kirby-Jones went 3-for-5 and for the Saints, CF Alonzo Harris went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Sioux City 8, Laredo 4 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed as they doubled up the Laredo Lemurs 8-4.
The top three batters in the Sioux City order combined for eight of the team’s 12 hits. CF Matty Johnson went 3-for-5 with two runs scored; RF Michael Lang went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and 1B Rene Tosoni went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored.
For the Lemurs, both LF Ty Morrison and 3B Juan Silverio registered two hits in the game.
Lincoln 5, Winnipeg 5 – Suspended
The game between the Lincoln Saltdogs and the Winnipeg Goldeyes was suspended in the ninth inning due to rain. The game is currently tied at five and it will be completed Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m. Central Time.
