Wichita 4, Kansas City 3 — Box Score
With a three-run home run from 3B Martin Medina, the Wichita Wingnuts walked off on the Kansas City T-Bones 4-3.
The Wingnuts were held scoreless through the first eight innings and were trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the final frame. DH Brent Clevlen and CF T.J. Mittelstaedt led off with back-to-back singles and after a fly out from 1B Matt Chavez, LF Brennan Salgado singled home Clevlen. In the next at-bat, Medina cleared the bases with his second home run of the season.
The T-Bones built their 3-0 lead thanks to RBI from 1B Kevin Keyes and RF Chantz Mack, who each had two hits in the game. Keyes hit two home runs for Kansas City to give him a league-leading nine on the year. 2B Zach Walters went 3-for-4.
Fargo-Moorhead 5, Lincoln 4 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored five runs in a two-inning span and that proved to be enough as they edged the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-4.
Lincoln took the lead early with a 1B Tommy Mendonca RBI double in the first and a DH Curt Smith single in the third but the RedHawks flipped the switch in the fourth. RF K.D. Kang scored as C Charlie Valerio bounced out and 2B Ryan Pineda scored when SS Yhoxian Medina did the same in the next at-bat. Three pitches later, LF Devan Ahart tripled home CF Kes Carter to take the lead. In the fifth, the RedHawks added two more runs on errors.
Lincoln rallied in the seventh as CF Randolph Oduber scored on a sac fly from 2B Cesar Valera and LF Brandon Jacobs, who had two doubles in the game, scored on a single from Mendonca. But the RedHawks pitching staff kept the Saltdogs off the board the rest of the way to seal the win.
Texas 4, Winnipeg 1 — Box Score
The Texas AirHogs saw a pair of four-hit performances and tallied 16 hits as a team as they topped the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-1.
Both 1B Levi Scott and RF Brian Ragira went 4-for-5 with a run scored for the AirHogs and one of Scott’s hits was a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. Scott was just a triple shy of the cycle. Ragira also scored in the fifth when SS Beamer Weems, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, lifted a sac fly to right. Starting pitcher Roman Gomez picked up his first win of the season in his first start as he went six innings without allowing a run on three hits and three strikeouts.
Seven different Goldeyes each had one hit including DH David Bergin who plated Winnipeg’s only run with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sioux City 7, St. Paul 5 — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers scored five unanswered runs to dig out of an early three-run deficit to snag a 7-5 win against the St. Paul Saints.
Sioux City racked up 17 hits in the contest, as all nine batters recorded at least one and seven of them had multi-hit games. CF Jayce Ray led the team with three hits including a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning that pulled the Explorers within one run. Later in the inning, LF LeVon Washington singled home SS Nate Samson and then in the next at-bat, C Tyle Ogle scored as 2B Brandon Alvarez was retired to give Sioux City the lead.
Samson added an insurance run in the eight with an RBI single. For the Saints, DH Anthony Gallas went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and three drawn walks and SS Tanner Vavra went 2-for-3 with two RBI. LF Tim Colwell also added two hits and two runs.
Cleburne 5, Salina 2 — Box Score
CF K.C. Huth racked up three RBI and 1B Mitch Glasser added a home run as the Cleburne Railroaders dropped the Salina Stockade 5-2.
Salina struck first with an RBI single from RF Daniel Aldrich, who was 2-for-4, in the top of the first but Huth gave Cleburne the lead in the second with a two-RBI double. The Railroaders added to the lead in the third when DH Geraldo Valentin singled home 2B Maikol Gonzalez and Glasser hit his solo shot in the fifth. Cleburne’s final run came in the sixth when Huth singled home C Shawn Zarraga, who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Starting pitcher Josh Hodges improved to 3-1 with the win after tossing 6.2 innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out three. Reliever Winston Abreu picked up his league-leading seventh save for working the eighth.
Sioux Falls 8, Gary SouthShore 2 — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries blew open a tight game with seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take an 8-2 win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
The Canaries were trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before they added three runs in three consecutive at-bats. The first came on an error after single from LF Burt Reynolds, allowing CF Dan Motl to score. C Aaron Gretz and 1B Chris Jacobs followed with RBI singles to take a 4-2 lead. In the next inning, RF Jabari Henry drew a bases-loaded walk and Reynolds belted a bases-clearing double to take firm control of the game.
For the RailCats, RF Anthony Cheky Jr. and SS Ryan Fitzgerald had two hits and DH Colin Willis had three.
