MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints INF Zach Walter has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 5.
Walters hit a blistering .414 over the past seven days while belting two home runs and driving in seven. The Las Vegas native put on a premiere performance in a 10-2 win over the Kansas City T-Bones on August 4, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs.
Walters began his professional career in 2010 after being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the ninth round of the MLB Draft. The University of San Diego alum spent parts of four seasons in the minors before making his major league debut for the Washington Nationals in 2013. In 2014, Walters played a career high 62 games at the major league level while splitting time between the Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians. In the 62 games, the switch-hitting utility man hit .181 with 10 home runs and 17 RBIs. Walters spent 12 games with the Indians in 2015 before playing three with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016.
