Terry leads Hot Dockhounds, Willeman Lights Out in Explorers’ Pen

Lake Country Dockhounds infielder Curtis Terry and Sioux City Explorers relief arm Zach Willeman won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the week, the league announced Monday.

Terry was the top run producer in the league this week, going 10-for-24 (.417) at the plate with two doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI.

The slugger was a big part of a huge offensive week for Lake Country in which they went 5-1. He hit two grand slams: one on Tuesday against Gary-Southshore and one on Sunday against Fargo-Moorhead.

After spending 43 games with the Dockhounds last year he’s played 30 this season with a .328 batting average, nine homers and 27 RBI.

On the pitching side, Willeman was lights out in the Explorers bullpen. The right-hander made four appearances during the week, pitching five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and one walk, striking out 11.

He particularly shined in Sioux City’s 5-3 win on Saturday in Kane County, shutting down the Cougars in the 7th and 8th innings, striking out five and helping his team hang on to their slim lead.

The former Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals and Miami Marlins farmhand is in his first season in the American Association. In 26 appearances this season he has a 2.37 ERA and three saves with 44 strikeouts.

Pointstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.
