Kansas City 6, Lincoln 1- Box
The T-Bones raced out to a 5-1 lead after three innings and never looked back in a 6-1 win over the Saltdogs in Lincoln. CF Tyler Massey collected a first-inning RBI single for Kansas City to open the scoring, and 1B Jake Blackwood hit a solo home run later in the inning. RF Dalton Wheat added a third run on an RBI single in the second before Blackwood doubled home a run in the fourth. Blackwood would score on a sacrifice fly from SS Vladimir Frias. Wheat notched another RBI single in the ninth to pad the lead. Wheat and Blackwood had two hits apiece in the win for Kansas City, leading the team.
RHP Jared Messer was masterful for Kansas City, striking out five while only allowing one run over eight innings, picking up the win.
RF Austin Darby hit a solo home run for Lincoln in the loss.
Wichita 6, Texas 2- Box
A trio of two-run innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth gave the Wingnuts the boost they needed in a 6-2 win over the AirHogs. C Martin Medina hit a two-run home run in the fourth to give the Wingnuts a 2-1 lead, and 1B Dustin Geiger added two more runs with a two-RBI single in the fifth. In the sixth, 3B Zack Cox knocked in a run on an RBI single, and DH Brent Clevlen drove home the final run on an RBI double.
Geiger’s three-hit night led the way for the Wingnuts. RHP Tim Brown allowed just two runs in six innings for the win, while a perfect three innings of relief earned RHP Jesse Pratt a save.
LF Burt Reynolds blasted his 16th home run of the season for Texas in the loss, increasing his league lead to six long balls over his next closest competitor.
Laredo 9, Joplin 4- Box
The Lemurs rode a 15-hit attack to a 9-4 road win over Joplin. Laredo scored in five of the game’s first seven innings, highlighted by a four-run top of the seventh. 1B Jesus Posso, SS Jimmy Norris and C Zane Chavez all had RBI singles in the frame. Posso’s three hits were a game-high for the Lemurs, who also saw four players notch two-hit nights. Posso’s two RBI also led the team, as he was the only Lemur with multiple runs batted in.
On the mound, RHP Barret Loux twirled six innings, allowing just one win and striking out five, picking up the win.
For Joplin, 2B Sergio Leon hit his first home run of the season.
Sioux Falls 9, St. Paul 4- Box
The Canaries broke open a close game in the middle innings and cruised to a 9-4 win over the host Saints at CHS Field. Leading 2-0 heading to the fifth, the Canaries bolstered their lead with a two-RBI double from 1B David Bergin. Two batters later, RF J.C. Linares hit a two-run home run, and Sioux Falls led 6-0. Three more Canaries runs came across in the sixth, including another RBI from Bergin on a single.
Though Bergin had two of his team’s 12 hits, SS Blake Schmit and 2B Darwin Perez had three hits each for the Canaries. RHP Shawn Blackwell struck out eight in 6.2 innings, an effort good enough for the win for Sioux Falls.
For St. Paul, LF Willie Argo hit a three-run home run in the sixth.
Gary SouthShore 8, Winnipeg 1- Box
The RailCats rolled past the Goldeyes by an 8-1 final at Shaw Park. RF Tillman Pugh got the scoring started early for Gary SouthShore with a three-run home run in the top of the first. Two more runs came home in the third, and LF Cameron Newell pushed the advantage to 6-0 with an RBI triple in the fourth. Pugh connected on his second homer of the game, a two-run shot in the ninth, to give the RailCats insurance. Newell and 3B Randy Santiesteban both had three hits for the RailCats in the win, and Newell achieved the rare feat of two triples in a game.
LHP Alex Gunn allowed just one run on three hits in 6.2 innings, earning the win for the RailCats.
For Winnipeg, RF David Rohm was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Sioux City at Fargo-Moorhead- Suspended (Curfew)
The game between the Explorers and RedHawks has been suspended due to curfew, with the score tied 3-3 after 16 innings. The game will resume at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at Newman Outdoor Field.
