T-BONES’ HUNTER WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Kansas City T-Bones OF Cedric Hunter (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 27.

The award is Hunter’s second of the season, as he also was named the American Association Player of the Week for the week ending July 30. This week, he hit .478 (11-for-23), picking up two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. Hunter recorded a hit in each of his six games this week, and is riding an eight-game hit streak.

The Decatur, Ga. native began his week on Monday at home against the Cleburne Railroaders. In a 6-3 loss, he was 1-for-3 with a double. The T-Bones bounced back on Tuesday, earning a 9-4 victory thanks to a monster performance from Hunter. He was 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in the win. Hunter was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in a 4-2 win on Wednesday, clinching a series win for the T-Bones.

Kansas City traveled to Gary, Ind. for a three-game weekend series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. In an 8-0 win on Friday night, Hunter continued his hit streak with a solo home run. Kansas City won by an 8-0 score again on Saturday, and Hunter was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Hunter capped his week on Sunday by going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in a 10-5 defeat.

On the season, Hunter is now hitting .336 (45-for-137) with six doubles, seven home runs and 21 RBI.

Hunter was a third-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres in 2006 out of Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, Ga. He gradually worked his way up the ladder in the Padres system, making his Major League debut on March 31, 2011. He was 1-for-4 over six games with San Diego in the 2011 season, and bounced between the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, and Atlanta Braves systems from 2012-2015. Hunter split the 2016 season between the Philadelphia Phillies and their Class AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley (Pa.) IronPigs. He appeared in 13 Major League games in 2016, collecting three hits, including a home run. Most recently, Hunter played in 14 games with the Cincinnati Reds’ Class AAA affiliate, the Louisville (Ky.) Bats, in 2017.
