T-BONES COME BACK IN NINTH TO WIN AT ST. PAUL

MAY 28 EVENING RECAPS

Kansas City 6, St. Paul 4- Box

The T-Bones entered the top of the ninth inning trailing the host Saints by a 4-2 score. When the dust had settled, Kansas City had a two-run lead and held on for a 6-4 win at CHS Field. 2B Brett Wiley started the rally with a walk, and SS Vladimir Frias followed with a single. Both runners scored on an error to tie the game, and CF Tyler Massey launched a two-run homer to give Kansas City the lead for good. Massey’s blast was the T-Bones’ second of the day, as C Cole Leonida hit a solo shot in the fourth. Leonida led the T-Bones with a 3-for-4, two RBI night, while Massey also had a multi-hit game with a 2-for-5 game.

RHP Aaron Baker struck out two batters in two relief innings, earning the win.

For St. Paul, LF Willie Argo went 2-for-4 with his third double of the season, while DH Nate Hanson drove in a team-high two runs. 

Gary SouthShore 4, Joplin 2 (Regularly Scheduled Game-7 Innings)- Box 

RailCats C Jose Gonzalez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, and Gary SouthShore never relinquished the lead in a 4-2 win over Joplin. DH Jeremy Hamilton added a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and 2B Elbert Devarie drove in Gonzalez on an RBI single in the fourth to cap the scoring. Hamilton and Gonzalez both finished their day with a pair of hits.

RHP Richard Castillo worked 5.1 innings, striking out three, to earn the win, and RHP Taylor Black tossed a scoreless seventh for the save.

DH Willie Cabrera was 3-for-3 for Joplin, collecting his fourth double of the season.

Lincoln 5, Winnipeg 2 (Completion of Suspended Game from 5/27)- Box

The Saltdogs pounded out 14 hits in a 5-2 victory over the Goldeyes. 3B Christian Ibarra led the attack with a 4-for-5 game that included his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Saltdogs an insurance run. RF Jon Smith also homered, a solo shot in the fourth inning, the middle of three straight frames in which the Saltdogs scored. CF Chase Harris went 3-for-4 for Lincoln as well.

RHP Lindsey Caughel struck out seven in 6.2 innings of relief work following the game’s resumption, allowing him to earn the win. RHP Brad Orosey recorded the final out for the save.

RF David Rohm was 2-for-4 for Winnipeg in the contest.

Winnipeg 10, Lincoln 2 (Game 2- 7 innings)- Box

The Goldeyes blew open a close game with five runs in the top of half of the sixth, and went on to beat the Saltdogs 10-2. SS Maikol Gonzalez drove in three of the inning’s runs on a bases-loaded single, and would score himself on a single by DH Reggie Abercrombie. LF Adam Heisler had a double in the frame, part of a 4-for-4 game in which he homered in the fifth and finished with five RBI. Heisler finished a triple shy of the cycle, as he collected two singles before his home run and double.

RHP Edwin Carl allowed two runs and struck out three Saltdogs in five innings, earning the victory for Winnipeg.

C Luis Alen, facing his former team, was 2-for-2 for Lincoln.

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Wichita 3- Box

A four-run fifth inning led the RedHawks to a 7-3 win over the Wingnuts at Newman Outdoor Field. After two runs came in off a fielder’s choice off the bat of LF Keury De La Cruz, 1B Brian Humphries drove in two on a double. C Luke Bailey was 2-for-4 for Fargo, a line that also included an RBI single. RF KD Kang joined Bailey with a two-hit game.

The win went to RHP Jose Almarante, who worked 2.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

For Wichita, 2B Christian Stringer was 3-for-5 and DH T.J. Mittelstaedt hit his second home run, a solo shot in the top of the fourth.

Sioux City 2, Sioux Falls 1- Box

A two-run first was enough to push the Explorers past their Siouxland rival Canaries by a 2-1 final. 2B Noah Perio drove in the game’s first run on an RBI single, and Perio himself scored on an RBI single by SS Nate Samson. Perio and CF Matty Johnson both notched two-hit games at the plate for Sioux City. RHP Graham Johnson worked 5.2 innings for the Explorers, striking out three and earning the win. RHP Connor Overton worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

For Sioux Falls, 1B Ozney Guillen hit a solo home run in the second inning to account for the Canaries’ scoring. LHP Joe Bircher struck out eight in an eight-inning complete game.

Laredo 7, Texas 4 (10 innings)

With the score knotted at 3-3 entering the 10th inning, Travis Denker hit a sacrifice fly to score Ty Morrison and give the Lemurs a lead they would not relinquish in a 7-4 win at Texas. J.D. Pulfer came around to score on a Denis Phipps triple for the inning’s second run, which would prove to be the game winner. Abel Nieves finished off a strong day at the plate with an RBI double to score Phipps, upping Nieves’ line to 3-for-5.

RHP Luis De La Cruz worked two innings in relief to earn the win for Laredo.

For Texas, Devon Rodriguez went 3-for-5.
