Kansas City, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced that the Miami Marlins have purchased the contract of pitcher Mike Kickham.

Kickham, a 6-foot-4 and 220-pound lefthander from Springfield, Mo., joined the T-Bones on June 26, 2016. In 14 starts, Kickham went 3-5 with a 2.83 ERA, which was fourth-best in the American Association. Additionally, he struck out 73 batters and walked 26 in 86 innings.

“We’re proud of Mike and wish him the best with the Marlins,” said T-Bones Vice-President and General Manager Chris Browne. “I know he’ll make the most of this opportunity.

“Mike’s a talented pitcher with local ties, so this is a great story for the T-Bones as well.”

This will be Kickham’s second stint in affiliated baseball. The San Francisco Giants selected him in the sixth round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Missouri State University. He reached the major leagues with the Giants in 2013, and spent parts of ‘13 and ‘14 in San Francisco. At the major-league level, Kickham has a 0-3 record with a 10.98 ERA in 14 appearances (three starts). In 30 1/3 innings, Kickham struck out 30 and walked 11. At all levels during his professional career, which includes playing in the Seattle and Texas organizations, Kickham is 35-46 with a 4.30 ERA. He has 590 career strikeouts and 303 walks. He has pitched 677 2/3 innings in 145 games (117 starts).

Mike Kickham is the twin brother of Dan Kickham, who pitched for Kansas City in 2012. They are the only twins — and only brothers — to play for the T-Bones.

Kickham is the 27th T-Bones player whose contract has been sold to a major-league organization, and third since the end of the 2016 season. In October, the Marlins purchased outfielder Dalton Wheat’s contract, and then the Colorado Rockies purchased pitcher David Holman’s contract in December.
