Stroup’s Five Homers, Marman’s Four Saves Earn Them Weekly Awards

Chicago Dogs infielder Dusty Stroup and Sioux City Explorers closer Kyle Marman won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 8/18, the league announced Monday.

Stroup was a model of consistency this week, hitting a home run in five consecutive games. He finished the week going 9-for-23 (.391) with those five homers, two doubles, and a league-high 15 RBI.

Stroup’s run-producing led Chicago to a 5-1 week with a sweep of Kansas City and a series win over Fargo-Moorhead. He had back-to-back four-RBI games on Thursday and Friday, in games Chicago won 7-5 and 10-9, respectively.

The slugger spent last season in the Pioneer League with the Rocky Mountain Vibes. In 72 games this season, he’s hitting .259 with 18 homers, 55 RBI and a .850 OPS.

On the pitching side, Marman slammed the door four times this week, including three consecutive saves over the weekend in a huge three-game sweep in Winnipeg.

In his four saves, Marman allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out three.

This is his first season in the league after spending three years in the Cleveland Guardians Organization. On the season, the all-star has 17 saves with a 2.58 ERA in 38.1 innings pitched.

Pointstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.
