Kansas City 9, Quebec 4
The Kansas City T-Bones downed the Quebec Capitales with the help of a monster game from 1B Matt Padgett. Padgett was 3-for-4 with four RBI in the game. Three other T-Bones had multi-hit games including 2B Jairo Perez, who also scored a pair of runs. SS Felix Molina registered two RBI for the T-Bones. For the Capitales, 3B Jonathan Malo was 2-for-4 with an RBI and DH Rene Leveret added two hits as well. Starter Aaron Meade picked up the win for his six inning start and reliever Dustin Loggins was credited with the save for holding on for the last three innings of the ball game.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, Winnipeg 3
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks doubled up the Winnipeg Goldeyes as RF Buddy Sosnoskie (pictured) drove in half of the runs himself. Sosnoskie was just 1-for-3 but his one hit was a homerun. Four RedHawks had two hit nights and 2B C.J. Rethereford, included in that group, posted an RBI and two runs scored. The RedHawks struck first, scoring in the second, but it was the big fourth inning, prompted by Sosnoskie’s blast, that put Fargo-Moorhead way out in front. The Goldeyes didn’t get on the board until the eighth inning. Though they put up a strong, three-run rally the Goldeyes would draw no closer.
Sioux Falls 8, Gary SouthShore 6
The Sioux Falls Canaries scored in seven of the first eight innings as they held off the Gary SouthShore RailCats 8-6. Leadoff man CF Nick Van Stratten paced the offense for the Canaries as he reached base four times and crossed the plate three of those times while going 3-for-4 with the bat. He was just a homerun shy of the cycle. Both 2B Jake Taylor and 1B Tim Pahuta added two hits for the Canaries. The RailCats tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth inning and strung together three runs off reliever Kirk Clark but Alan DeRatt came in and shut the door to earn the save.
Wichita 7, St. Paul 2
Wichita got off to a quick start with two runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as the Wingnuts handled the St. Paul Saints 7-2. For Wichita, middle infielders SS Ryan Khoury and 2B Jake Kahaulelio both had strong games at the plate with two hits and two runs apiece. Kahaulelio also had a homerun and three RBI. CF Jared McDonald also had two hits in the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI. For the Saints, C Dwight Childs brought in the only two runs and they came in the fifth inning. Starter Ryan Hinson earned the win for his 7.2 innings of work in which he gave up two runs on four hits.
Sioux City 6, Lincoln 5
The Sioux City Explorers jumped out in front early and held on to top the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-5 in Lincoln. The offense all started with DH Palmer Karr’s three-run homerun in the top of the first inning. 1B Wally Backman, who scored on the Karr roundtripper, led the Explorers with two hits in the game. Two Saltdogs, on the other hand, had multi-hit games as 1B Dennis Raben and LF Matt Forgatch were 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 respectively. Starter Jason Jarvis was tabbed as the winner for six innings of work.
Grand Prairie 12, El Paso 4
The AirHogs put on an offensive showcase as Grand Prairie handily disposed of El Paso 12-4. The AirHogs racked up 19 hits and seven different AirHogs had multi-hit games. Three Airhogs had three-hit games and 1B Andres Rodriquez had four hits, three runs and three RBI. SS Ryan Pineda also had three RBI in the game. The Diablos weren’t completely stifled at the play as they belted out 13 hits. SS Miguel Chacoa was 2-for-2 and scored a run and LF J.J. Muse also had a pair of hits and a run. Starter Derek Blacksher nearly went the distance as he pitched 8.2 innings but faltered in the ninth and gave up two runs. Reliever David Quinowski came in and struck out the only batter he faced to end the game.
Laredo 7, Amarillo 7 (Postponed — 13 innings)
Due to the curfew rule, the Laredo Lemurs game with the Amarillo Sox was suspended after the 13th inning. The game will resume Sunday at 6 p.m. CF Sawyer Carroll has an impressive game going as he was 5-for-6 with four RBI and a pair of runs. 3B John Allen also had a big night as he added four hits in seven at bats and two RBI. The Lemurs held a three-run lead going into the ninth inning but three consecutive RBI singles from CF Jason Martin, RF Chris Valencia and C Chris Grossman tied up the score. Grossman has a team-high three hits and two RBI. Both Valencia and LF David Peralta had two hits in the game. Valencia added an RBI.
