SONGCO’S SEVENTH INNING BLAST MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

The St. Paul Saints edged the Winnipeg Goldeyes 2-1 behind a solo home run from 1B Angelo Songco in the seventh inning.

The Saints took the lead in fourth inning when DH Ian Gac singled to score CF Alonzo Harris, who reached on a walk. But the Goldeyes leveled the score in the bottom of the inning when DH Brady Wilson drew a leadoff walk, stole second, took third on an error and scored on a single by 2B Brad Boyer. The Saints regained the lead on Songco’s blast in the seventh. The Saints had just four hits on the night and Songco, who leads the league with 41 RBI on the season, was responsible for three of them.

The Goldeyes had seven hits in the game and 1B/3B Casey Haerther and Boyer each had two of them. Starting pitcher Kramer Sneed picked up the win as he went seven innings and allowed the one run on six hits while striking out eight batters. Reliever Ryan Rodebaugh earned the save for working a perfect ninth.

 

Laredo 6, Amarillo 4Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs took an early lead, gave it up and took it back in the fifth inning as they beat the Amarillo Thunderheads 6-4.

The Lemurs took a 3-0 early as RF Dvontry Richardson hit a two-run home run in the first and 2B Jeudy Valdez hit a solo shot in the second. The Thunderheads rallied back as SS Juan Martinez had an RBI double in the third and another in the fifth that scored two runs. The Lemurs took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as 1B Dustin Geiger scored on a wild pitch, DH Denis Phipps scored on a Valdez put out and C Brian Peterson doubled home 3B Juan Silverio.

LF Logan Vick scored in the seventh Thunderheads but that would be the last run of the night for either team. Richardson led the Lemurs with three hits and two RBI and for Amarillo, Vick went 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

 

Kansas City 7, Wichita 4Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones racked up 13 hits and turned them into seven runs as they took care of the Wichita Wingnuts 7-4.

The T-Bones got started right away as 2B Ryan Cavan scored on a single from DH Adam Bailey in the top of the first. But the Wingnuts responded in the bottom of the frame as 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt hit an RBI double (his 40th RBI of the season) and then scored on an error later in the inning. In the second, C Brian Erie and LF Nate Tenbrink each had RBI singles and 1B Jake Blackwood lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to cap a three-run inning. The T-Bones added three more runs in the fourth as Bailey cleared the bases with a three-RBI double.

The Wingnuts started to rally in the seventh as C John Nester hit an RBI single and 1B Matt Padgett scored on a wild pitch but Wichita would draw no closer than three runs. Kansas City’s starting pitcher Michael Nannini was credited with the win as he went six innings and allowed two runs on two hits and had three strikeouts.
